Howdy all,

I am new here, but not new to forums in general.

I just purchased a 2010 Expedition Eddie Bauer edition. We are very excited as this will allow us to pull a camper in the summer and give us 4x4 in the winter.

It has 180,000 miles on it, but was meticulously maintained. It runs and drives perfectly and has absolutely zero rust or corrosion on it. And the interior looks basically new.

There is one minor repair that it needs.....the vanity mirror door on the drivers side is broken.

If you leave it closed, the door stays in place, But if you open it, it falls out. It appears that one of the plastic "pins" is broken. It seems that the last owner pulled the bulbs out....probably for battery savings I would suppose. I have pics below.

Can that part be repaired or replaced or will I need to purchase a whole new visor (probably from salvage)?

Thanks for all your help!

You can try super gluing a little piece on the end there to replace what has been lost and see if that gets it working.

I thought about that and that is most likely what I will do. The trick is finding something the correct size, and then reinstalling it without breaking it.

I thought I would check to see if anyone had encountered this before and found a more elegant or simpler solution.

On my 2014 it looks like it pivots on a metal rod (both sides) and you'd have to remove the whole mirror component from the visor to get to that but I suspect its manufactured to never be removed.

Drill the hole a little deeper and get an assortment of small tacks/nails. Get a small but strong spring that will fit into hole and find nail with head that will sit on top of spring.

Cut off sharp tip of nail at right length to fit into the other side (might have to drill another hole) then use thin knife to install.

I used your idea and came up with a little different solution. I drilled out the area where the old plastic pin used to be and used a cut off nail as a new pin.

At first I tried to super glue the nail in place. Since the nail was just a tad bit sloppy in the hole, the super glue didn't hold well enough for me to reinstall the cover in the visor. I couldn't find a perfect match between drill bit and nail size.

So I broke out the JB Weld, cleaned up the hole and pin from the super glue and let the JB Weld cure for a good 12 hours.

I used a screw driver between the cover and the frame to pry the cover over far enough and flex the frame to allow the metal pin to snap in place.

It works perfectly now. YEA!!!!

Here are some pics of the pin fix before I reinstalled it into the visor.

My visor had stopped holding as well. I went to a local pick and pull and replaced it for $15. Nice fix though!
