This is what I hammer into the students. All you need to use is your meter. Don't take anything apart in the process.

Well. Didn't start again after coming out of Sam's Club. Had to bump the solenoid post lightly & then it would start tonight. I have a new starter to put in tomorrow & will check the older one out later. 101100 miles on the old one.

Did not do voltage drop but will before starter replacement.

Did voltage drop test & had none from ign switch, thru relay, to solenoid. I thought this was original starter but should have know better :suicide:. Replaced starter and Ford wire harness since it had been 'worked on' using cheap clamp style cable ends. New harness was only $60+. Checked for voltage drop after install of starter and harness w/o any drop, started (lot less noise) & buttoned everything back up.
stamp11127, thanks for your patience and stand on the voltage drop check 1st & not continuity :pokeowned: and for everyone's help.

Add in an aux relay in place of the starter relay and save some bucks. The 03/04's are known to also kill the fuel pump relay in that great idea Ford had with the sjb.

You "bypassed" the starter relay ? Was the relay bad ? Did you try just swapping in the one next to it ( trailer tow relay....) and see how it acted ? Or how did you "bypass" the relay?

i swapped with the highbeam relay, still no crank. i pulled the starter relay out and with the key on i used a jumper wire to jump # 30 terminal and 87 terminal maybe #87a its hard to see under there then it cranked.
