The tounge weight will be the same. What you are changing is where the tounge weight is going like the trailer axle and the truck axles both front and rear

If I buy an Equalizer WD hitch, can I install a 2" ball on it? I'm about to tow a trailer across four states that does not accept 2 5/6" balls. They only sell the Equalizers with 2 5/16" balls or no balls. I never see them on sale with a 2" ball.

I love our Equalizer Hitch. Bought it when we had the Honda Odyssey and the 350 lb tongue weight just squashed it. Made a huge difference until I had one wheel off the road / one on while pulling next to the dump. The axle looked wayyy over-loaded plus the Odyssey had 160,000 miles on it. Sold it and got the Expy. The tongue weight is about 1/2 of the Expy's max without a WD hitch but I love how the Equalizer stops sway from happening. Easy to hookup and I don't have to pay attention to how many chain lengths etc. the aluminum L brackets...are the weak point. For that reason I first ordered the Reese setup however (as many have complained) the bolt threads weren't properly tapped and it was missing parts so I returned it and ordered the equalizer.

That Hensley hitch costs 3 times the price of the Equalizer. Neat technology but not in my budget.
