Just got back from a 1600 mile round trip vacation and for once was not towing my travel trailer. I have to say, I was not impressed with the road handling of this truck. 50k miles on it, no leaks from the suspension bits, and no bouncing when stopped but holy crap it felt like it was going to roll over in any corner or making highway lane changes. I think it despararely needs a sway bar but I don't believe anyone makes one for the 15+ expeditions. I'm running the stock soft Goodyear wranglers inflated to 45psi, maybe some of the body roll can be attributed to those? I've driven many suburban with high miles and they all handle loads better on the highway and around town. What are my bolt on options for replacements that don't involve fabrication? Does Bilstein finally make a 15+ complete rear shock/strut that bolts on? How about for the front?

45 psi, my goodness that sounds high, that couldnt have been comfy to ride in. Whats the trim and wheel specs of your truck? Does it have the ccd? If your truck is an EL, a lot of the times, the shocks go out around the mileage your at, thats where id go first.

What load range tires do you have? I found the P tires on mine didn't cut it with a trailer. Lode range E for mine they work so much better. The added benefit is tires that last , mine have 65k on them and they will go at least one more year.

The recommended cold inflation pressure for my 2015 Expedition Limited 4x4 is 36 psi. Your vehicle should be similar or the same.

Why are you inflating the tires to 45 psi? When they get hot (highway driving) - the inflation can increase to 50 psi+.

I suspect the overinflation has something to do with your ride dissatisfaction.

While I agree that 45 psi is probably over-inflated for the loads, I doubt it would cause the sensations described by the OP. I'm with dlCorbett, time to replace the shocks. 50K is about the service limit for factory shocks, whether they are leaking or not, and the 'pogo test' is not always an accurate representation that the shocks are okay..

Bilstein doesn't make complete shock/spring assembly replacements that I am aware of, but they have both 4100 and 5100 (adjustable spring seat) shocks available for the 2015-2017 Expeditions now (front and rear). There are several threads floating around in the 3rd gen forum about them..

I believe KYB has a decent alternative shock as well..

I'm betting you'd be much happier with the ride/drive with these than your 50K old factory shocks, but that's just my guess..

These shock advisories always puzzle me. I have the original shocks on my 2003XLT & 2014EL. Ride seems great. I must not be very observant or just plain clueless. My 2014 rides like a dream on the highways. Nothing like its about to roll over at all. Maybe I'm just lucky?

I know in the snowmobile world the "shock guys" all say you have to have your shocks rebuilt EVERY year. I never experienced that problem either. Maybe every 7 years?

BTW … I run ~45psi also, but have LT tires so I need to. Works great.

Just an FYI Blistein now has 5100 for the front and rear.

Personally I upgraded with KYB shocks front and rear and it's solid, barely dips at a stoplight even!

I run 50 psi when I tow, and low 40s when traveling without the trailer. It gives the tires a firmer sidewall but the factory Goodyear tire are very soft in the sidewall department. The truck leans around corners, both high speed and low speed in town. It does not pogo or bounce, but has always nosedived when breaking. It actually rides better with the trailer attached (with WDH) since the hitch holds the back of the truck in place and prevents any nosedive as well. Maybe I need to crawl under and have a closer look at those rear shocks. I'd read the spring perches are integrated to the shock on the 15+ which prevented after market ones from being used. Hopefully billstein has this figured out on their 5100s for the rear. I just wish theysde a quick strut product including the springs for easier swaps

47 psi on my 35/11.50/20 ridge grapplers for daily driving. Readylift 3/2, no issues and she’s riding very smooth

What do the tires say printed on the sidewall about max pressure??
Are they a 52 or 54 psi max tire?
