Which year f150 is this motor taken out of? I understand that the early 3.5 EBs had certain issues, is this expedition motor the same breed as the 11 F150s or what?

It is a first gen Ecoboost. Not sure what changes were made during it's run.

Near the bottom this Wiki page shows the Ecoboost distribution. There are two 3.5L engines. We have the first gen.

Fun facts I learned on this page. I used to have a '70 Mercury Cyclone GT with a 351 Cleveland engine.

This 3.5 is in the "Cyclone" family of Ecoboost engines and is made in Cleveland. Ha. Makes me feel all warm inside.

Wowser that was my 1st car. Purchased @16 yrs old for $500 in 1978 off a Ford lot. It was gold in color at was a super fast, and great handling car for as big as it was.

I bought mine in 87 for $2,400. It was in good shape and loaded. I nearly killed myself several time with it.

It did handle pretty good for a 2dr that was longer than most station wagons.

Now if only I were to find out that the TRUE displacement is 3.51L. Then it would all be. Complete.

I just remember when I read that the size of the valves for the 4v heads were as big as a Big Block. I thought that was way cool.

Ok guys…..2017 Expedition 3.5 ecoboost. Purchased new. 71k miles on it, just had plugs changed and borescoped the valves. Photos below. Basically spotless. I run full synthetic oil and premium octane gas. Purrs like a kitten, strong immediate power when called for.

so done I work with has same vehicle, 2017 bought new, now has 180k on it….zero problems.
