So about a month ago I replaced my Transmission with a brand new 4R70W from Ford on my 2000 XLT 4x4 with the 4.6 at 212k, it was running and shifting smoothly almost like a brand new truck, then 3 days ago I noticed a very small leak from the transmission on my driveway where the tranny meets the engine, at which point I brought it to the shop that replaced my trans and told them about the leak. They kept it for a night, flushed it, redid the seals and added new fluid, no more leaking. Picked it up yesterday and it was running great when out of nowhere I start hearing a rather audible squeaking noise in traffic while idling at a light, thought it was the truck next to me and thought nothing of it at first, then the other truck took a left, I kept going straight and when I got to the next light I heard it again, an intermittent squeaking noise that would sometimes be constant while idling at the light, I thought it could be a bad belt or pulley so I figured I'd check on it when I got home. When I finally got home I put in park, popped the hood checked the belts and they looked and sounded fine, so I shut the hood and went to pull the key when all of a sudden I heard it again and it was constant, coming from underneath the driver door. So I got under there and sure enough the sound was coming from my Brand New Transmission that is not even a month old.. didn't have this squeaking noise before I had the leak fixed but now its intermittently constant when I put it Drive, Reverse and Park. Suffice it to say I'm at a loss and a bit pissed as I just dumped 3 Grand for a new transmission a month ago and now this happens. I plan on taking it back to the shop tomorrow but I would rather have an idea of what the issue is so I can scold them properly, hell I might just take it to a different shop entirely and have them take a look.

I know its kind of last minute fellas but any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

Well I took it into the shop on Aug 19th and they're still trying to figure out the issue, took the Trans apart and the clutch plate is undamaged and the Harmonic Balancer is fine. I'll keep y'all updated as I receive more info.

UPDATE : Fixed + Fantastic Story

So it only took 7 weeks for the shop to resolve the issue. Thank god I'm able to work from home. First off, earlier the shop swapped my Transmission with a brand new one in July to resolve the loud squeaking that reverberated from where the Transmission meets the Engine... turns out my Transmission wasn't the issue in the first place, and as much as they'd like to say it was slipping, I know for a Fact that it wasn't. So I'm out 3k for a solution that didn't fix the initial problem. Great.

So after a 3 weeks of messing around with my Transmission the shop concluded that the issue wasn't the transmission and said it had to be the engine. And after messing around with the Engine for a week and a half they called in a Mod Motor Expert from the Romeo Facility which took another 2 weeks. It turns out my oil pump was scraping on itself making the squeaking noise that reverberated throughout the engine and up to the Transmission. In addition the driver side of the motor was not receiving any oil at all, but my oil pressure was nominal.. however the fact remains that the driver side was operating without any oil to speak of for some 3 months prior to dropping off truck... Lovely. My intake manifold was cracked and crumbled to shit, and I can only deduce that pieces of it were somewhere in the engine and were eventually spit out... So the oil pump was replaced as well as the timing chains and a new intake manifold was installed and resealed. At 7 weeks I finally got my Expy back with the squeaking noise now gone.

And with all that being said, it also turns out that my 4.6 Triton is not a Windsor motor, but is in fact a Romeo motor from a 2004 Crown Vic. Which has me extremely puzzled and worried as the truck has been in my family since it rolled off the assembly line in 1999 and the VIN indicates its a Windsor Motor. So after looking through our Book (records) of the Expy which accounts for Every Repair, Oil change, Tire rotation, Upgrade and every last Bolt that has ever been changed on the Expy, at no point have we ever had the engine swapped let alone pulled from the truck. So somebody out there either has my original engine or swapped my motor without my knowledge or consent... Fantastic.

At least now I know I have PI heads.
