I replaced the ECU (PCM) in my 1998 Ford Expedition. The ECU was programmed with the Expedition's VIN number by the company I bought it from, however, the my original keys not work. I tried re-programming them with a LAUNCH X431 V PRO Bi-Directional Scan Tool, but each time I try the tool says it cannot communicate with module. When I bought the tool it said that it is able to program keys, that is why I bought it.

I also tried this with a 2001 Mercury Sable, and get the same result.

Does anyone know of a scan tool less than $1000 that can perform this operation?

Regards,
Bill

I've always been told either a locksmith or the dealer has to program the key to the computer. Can you reach the tech department of the scanner you have? Maybe they can walk you through the procedure. Are you getting power to the scanner for other codes and functions?

Yes, the scanner works fine for all other operations, but does not for reprogramming the keys.

One of the selling points of the scanner is that it could re-program keys, that is why I bought it (from Amazon).

Maybe someone else will come up with something.

Thanks for your reply.

Bill
