Quick question-

I'm looking at a used 2018 Expedition MAX Limited 4WD vehicle that needs a new engine. Obviously, it had the original 3.5L V6 EcoBoost Twin Turbo engine in it. I'm looking for a donor vehicle to replace the engine.

Can I simply swap it out with a 2018/2019 Ford F-150 4WD (they seem to be more prevalent) 3.5L V6 EcoBoost Twin Turbo engine? I understand that the wiring looms will be different, based upon options and size of the vehicle. However, does anyone know if they have all the same parts to the engine- i.e. will the F-150 engine have all the spots for the appropriate connections, sensors, etc that the expedition requires to operate properly? Or do I need to snag a new OE engine or one from a 2018/2019 Expedition?

Any help would be appreciated.

I suspect it is going to be really tough to get an accurate answer to this, probably not a lot of people have done this yet. I swapped an engine into my 2007 jeep from a newer 2011 jeep and while the engine was the same the wire harnesses didn't match and I had to swap sensors and wires from one to the other to get it to work. I would think all the same sensors would be on the F150 model but I would not be surprised if connectors were all different. Again, I would think if the engine model is the same which I believe the 2018-19 F150 uses the same engine you should be good to go.

Just curious but what happened to the engine that it needs to be replaced so new? Any chance there are other major issues with the expedition that you can't see because you can't drive it?

Is a 4WD F150 engine really any different than a 2WD F150 engine?

The 2018 Expedition you are looking at -- is the engine available or not? Will you be re-using bolt-ons or hoping to plug & play from the replacement?

If a mechanical failure I'd say it should be pretty strait forward. If collision related failure, good luck.

I'd find out what happened to the original engine.
I've done dozens of engine swaps in years gone by from a chevy small block into a 280 sl Mercedes to a 496 chevy rat motor into a Vega to a 350 into a corvair to a 426 hemi in a duster. Anything can be done, but should you? An engine swap today is very complex because of multiple reasons, a ford replacement may be your cheapest route.

I’d use this opportunity as a justification for installing a 6.7L powerstroke or the new 6.2L gasser but I can’t help myself with these things. LOL As for which engines, you should be able to use one from 2018+ F150 or Expy/Navi. The big change was the addition of port injection on these newer engines.

If your going to that level of work work why not a Chrysler crate hemi or a Chevy LS engine. Both are more compact than the Ford overhead cam engines
Good luck getting the wiring figured out. But then you could have the first hybrid expedition.

Ship it to Tesla in Warm Springs, CA and have them fill the Engine compartment with batteries and strap on electric motors. Hell, there's probably a tax break and you'll get carpool pass stickers for 1 year. Bahahahahahahahaha!!!!

LS Swaps are easier on older vehicles, a nightmare on anything 2004+ when the computers became more complicated as well as the elimination of the gem module into separate ECM, BCM modules. You will want to find another Ecoboost for the easiest job. The 5.0 is the only other engine that would even remotely mount up to the same stuff since it uses the same computers/ drivetrain as an eco. Good luck with a Chevy engine lol.

HELLCRATE! 6.2L Supercharged Hellcat motor. Do you think the X-fer case and transmission will handle 700 HP?

Or, if you want to keep it in the family... Gen 3 Coyote 5.0L .

What a sweet noise that would make, you could do a radio delete ;)

Completely impractical, but... oooh!

If you are just messing around and have a little coin laying around. A 5.0 swap would be dope!!!! Supercharge it and you would have a gem of a ride. I guarantee you that 5.0 would fit relatively easily. With all the parts available for the 150, it would probably not cost a huge amount to pull off either

Just curious. What are they asking for the expy? I would really be interested in that to put a 5.0 in. And I will be buying another expy next year for myself.
