Hi from So Cal.

I'm looking for another SUV. Currently have a 2012 Toyota Sequoia with 174,000 miles on it that I bought from rental place.

I am looking for a replacement and the Ford Expedition has a nice look. I have also been looking at the Chevy Tahoe and GMC Yukon.

I'm not sure that I like the Expedition with a V6 engine. Also that "Auto Stop System" is just something that seems like it would eventually give problems.

I am just trying to find the most reliable SUV. I hoping to find out if there are any known problem areas. with different vehicles.

I would probably buy again from rental company. Never had any problems with the Sequoia.

Expedition has much better 3rd row than competitors. The Ecoboost is actually an Ecobeast. I pull my 7K trailer in 6th on flat land, at around 1,500 RPM. If you're concerned about reliability, get an extended warranty. And these things depreciate like mad, so late model used ones are 40 percent off. If you're concerned about the stop start, pick up 2015 - 2017. They didn't have it.

If you’re looking for max reliability another Sequoia is at the top, the Tahoe/ Yukon’s are pretty good as well as the Expedition. They are all good vehicles on one way or another. I’d look for a later model 5.4L V8 in the 2013-2014 range.

Thanks everyone for the replies.

I rented a 2019 Ford Expedition XLT Max for the week.
I think it is almost 2 feet longer than my Sequoia.

Drove it on 4 hr trip. Now just driving around town before I drive back.
It handles and drives very well for a larger SUV. The turning radius is excellent.
You can be going 80/90 mph and really don't feel your speed.

The Auto Start Stop is a pain if you forget to turn it off. It reminds you real quick at a stop light.
It is hard to get used to a dial on the console for the shifter.

The seats seem like the same ones we have in the 2003 Ford Focus that we own.
Do the higher level Expeditions have nicer seats not leather but more comfortable?

The Android Auto is kind of nice. I haven't had a chance to check it out too much. On the Google Maps you can switch to satellite and get a moving picture of the actual landscape.
Is there an easy way on the Fords to bypass the system so you don't have to pull over to use the screen?

I have an after market on my Sequoia that the installer bypassed for me.

I will probably rent a Tahoe or Yukon in the future. I wasn't planning on doing anything until next year at this point.

It's about 16" longer than a Sequoia.

In the past, Lockpick would allow you to access the GPS without pulling over, but I don't think it's been updated to work with the later models yet. I don't much care either way as I find Google Maps far superior to the onboard nav in even the 2019 Fords.

The seats in my '11 Limited are quite comfortable, but not nearly as cushy as those in a Suburban/Tahoe.

I rented a Tahoe. Not much different that driving the Expedition. The Tahoe among other GM vehicles has the Automatic Fuel Management (AFM) system. When you are in cruise it switches from V8 to V4. It is constantly switching back and forth. Got around 20mpg on 4 hour drive. The AFM system is a problem on these vehicles from what I read. They use special AFM valves. guides etc that cause problems at higher mileage.

I think the Ford Expedition would be a safer buy. Since I don't like the Start Stop system and the transmission shift knob on the newer models I am looking at 2016 and 2017 Expeditions with low mileage.
