I just did mine for about $170 with KYB struts off Amazon (around $85/each, Napa was $180/each). I got a loaner MacPherson spring compressor from AutoZone.
Highly recommend a good impact wrench. Lower bolts are a few hundred ft/lb torque so it takes some muscle.
Took me about 30 mins per side. Would definitely be quicker if you get a loaded strut vs using the old spring and swapping the new strut in.

New strut and top bearing cost as much as Monroe Ready Strut. Much easier and no spring compressor. Just did mine and added Ready Lift.

as stated the biggest issue is if you buy a strut with the spring already fitted or if you have to transfer the spring from the old strut to the new one. Changing the strut itself s quite easy (I replaced all 4 struts on my car a few weeks ago), I had an air impact wrench as the shock mounting bolts are quite large and very tight, it took me about 3 hours to do all 4 struts (in absolutely no rush with coffee breaks!!). I purchased Bilstein shocks and had to swap the springs over, Autozone lent me a spring compressor tool (no charge), it was an easy job just be careful when compressing the spring (lots of energy stored in the compressed spring) and have some good sockets to loosed the tight bolts. the 3 hours included swapping the 4 springs over. If you have a trolley jack to lift the car and a good 1/2 inch socket set, you should have no issue swapping the 4 shocks. I paid $300 for all 4 Bilstein shocks, the rear where approx $150 for the pair.

Gary, did you need an alignment after installing the Bilsteins?

I must admit I assumed I didn't need an alignment, but I never got it checked. I will get my tyres rotated shortly and will have them check the alignment, but as I only removed bolts holding the shock absorber to the chassis/axle I can't see why the steering/alignment would have changed.
