Is there something I dont know about that these transmissions when it shifts into 3rd gear. 1st and 2nd shifts firmly but 3rd just seems much to soft and drawn out when babying around.

When I get on the gas, 3rd does shift firmer, but then its like it shifts again, like it went into 4th but very soft. I watch the numbers on the dash and its not shifting into 4th.

4th 5th and 6th I really dont feel them at all.

I see the same on my '17 EL, too. It almost feels like it's shifting and then the torque converter is locking up.

Same on both my 2007s, if I give it more gas it shifts firmer into 3rd. It’s not like it’s crazy but it’s a more “gentle” shift than 1&2.

Its crazy. It shifts into 3rd...........then it slowly drags into what seems like another gear, but then 4th 5th and 6th shift normal just like 1st and 2nd.
Pressing the tow button on the shifter dont make any difference either.
Humm, Im gonna see if shifting manually does it now that I am thinking about it. Well I will try it Saturday.

Im riding my Polaris the next 3 days at Hatfield Mccoy trails.

My 17 as well. My guess is that the ratio difference between 2 and 3 is larger such that If it shifts at a low rpm the torque converter slips for a bit so it doesn’t lug the engine. When you are on the gas more it shifts at a higher rpm thus not requiring the delayed lockup.

My 17 XLT dose all the things you've all reported. I've had mine in to get checked at 2 different dealers and they said it's normal to give better gas mileage. I use the tow mode most of the time in town or I manually select while I'm in town. On the highway I leave it in D.
I read that the shift points can be tweaked with a programmer but it voids the trans warranty. the programmer is supposed to let you set the clutch release and engage time&speeds and the Torque Converter lockup. I personally have not done anything yet but I plan on looking into it when my warranty is up.

I have this same issue but when I goose it, 3rd kinda acts like a cvt transmission and just keeps a high rpm until 4th then acts like a regular gear style transmission. Dealer saying "no codes, no problem" & I said "how did you fix anything before computers?"
I'm about fed up with it and will be taking video & contact Ford.

I hated the stock tune shift strategy of my 16. Part of the reason why I got a 5 star tune. All six gears are on point, no lag and no longer drawn out. Nice and firm
