Thanks everyone for the info. Just did the side exit this past weekend when I lifted it. Looks way better and only took me about 20 minutes to do!

Add another one done... I don't know what Ford was thinking putting it straight out the back. Total PITA for loading cargo or hooking up the trailer.
My stock resonator came off pretty easily thankfully. It has low miles and hasn't had any salt on it yet. I would do a couple of things different if I did it over again, but it came out ok. I don't like the angle for starters. I'd also probably get a blacked out tip so I didn't have chrome to keep clean. Over all it looks good and functions great. I'll call it a win...

They copied the Navigator exhaust style over to the Expedition in 2015 for some reason. The 3rd generation Navigator got rear exit exhaust in 2007, and the Expedition used side exit exhaust instead. My guess is the side exit was to let the 5.4 V8 sound be heard and give it some throat. The Navigator was probably to quiet it down with the extra resonator for the “luxury” and “quiet” ride. My guess is with the V6 ford just went for quiet. If I had a ‘15 I’d do this mod as well, looks much nicer out the side. Nice job. Here are two 2010s.

It's funny. I have an 07 also and never noticed how much tail pipe showed. Probably because it darkens with age... Seeing that pic makes me feel better about the downward angle my 17 ended up with.

Finally ordered parts for my '17. Can't wait to get them on since the current setup looks ridiculous.

After having mine on for a few months I would say the only downside ive seen is how much carbon buildup is on the tip of the exhaust. I think the only improvement I would do is go black with the tip.

Completed today, I'm very happy with what has been achieved.
The huge concern in winters was warming up the truck while packing the trunk with the tailgate open. All the fumes went into the cabin where kids were already, which is not ok obviously.
parts used:
amazon:
* elbow 45 3": Dynomax 42760 Aluminized Elbow
* pipe tip: Dynomax 36474 Stainless Steel Tip
canadian tire:
* two standard U clamps 3"
* universal hanger, actually half of it, bent to the place, I used the lower hole with the speedclip left from the original hanger.

the longest and hardest part of the task was to take the resonator out. 6 year old exhaust was baked in rust and the clamp bolt rounded up in no time. Angle grinder solved the clamp bold, pry bar helped to rotate the resonator back and forth and eventually it dropped.

No more poisoning kids while loading groceries or sleds! Highly recommend, total was under $150 CAD
