Very easy to swap out the 3.5L water pump. I did it on mine, but not because it failed. The accident pushed the hose connection a little and that caused it to leak.
The biggest thing I can say is BE CAREFUL of the tube that goes from the rear of the pump under the intake and to the back of the engine. It can pop out of the rear easily and it can be a ***** to get back in. I ended up cracking the rear housing and had to replace it.

The hardest part of the whole thing is getting the turbo tubes out.

It's done. The water pump itself is simple, those turbo tubes though are a PITA. I cracked the tube that runs between the air box and the driver's side turbo right where the PCV hose from the valve cover connects to it.. I called my local dealer, they located one and had it sent to them, but it was for the passenger side, then they found the correct drivers side one and had it sent to them, I went to pick it up yesterday and it was different, it had the PCV connections and the blow off valve tube connection in a different location.. In the end I used some plastic epoxy on my old one and will look online for the correct part to replace it.. I needed to do something because my wife and I sharing her car was getting old.

The guys at the parts counter at the dealer said not to feel bad, these plastic tubes crack easily after the vehicle gets some miles (and lots of heat cycles) on it. Frustrating little repair, but damn I love the way this thing rides. All in all, still saved about $500 doing it myself, even with the cost of the tube that I cracked. The Motorcraft pump I used was $80 from Rock Auto and was made in the US.

So, back in April, a small spot of coolant appeared on my driveway. Took it to the dealer which pressure checked the cooling system and didn't find any problems. The puddle dried up and never reappeared, until last weekend, this time a much bigger puddle, large enough that the coolant level dropped below the cold level indicator. Drove it to my mechanic for a look and the leaking stopped just like earlier this year. Mechanic pressure tested the system and so far has come up empty handed. Reading this thread, it sounds like I might have a failing water pump that is intermittently leaking coolant?
