Looking at buying a 2019 and found one I like with the fx4 package.

in normal driving mode is the ride noticeable stiffer ?

other than the hill descend is there any other software differences ?

it includes most of the towing pkg stuff. Does it have all towing things except for trailer braking ??

I do a bit of off road and like the skid plates as there’s lots of tree stumps on my land. My atv trailer is only 3,500 lbs so the trailer pkg isn’t high on my list. I like the fx4 rims. Saves me from buying the $999 rim upgrade

im gonna test drive it next week. Very few in my area with the fx4 pkg

If it doesn’t have the factory trailer brake that means it also doesn’t have the larger transmission cooler. (At least on previous years). Towing capacity is around 6,000 or so.

Supposed to also have the terrain management system that first showed up in the Raptor. No, it isn’t a Raptor.

I havent driven an fx4, but on the 4th gen forum many ppl have them. They seem to say the ride is still very comfortable if slightly stiffer.

There are no software or programming differences in any models but the platinum.

Trailer braking was omitted from the 4th gen trucks even with the heavy tow pkg so u would have to add it after the fact. Ford sremed to omit a lot of towing features from the 4th gen for some reason (trailer brake, load leveling, tow mirror opt)

If you can test drive it sooner, do so and test the other models as well. Fx4 models are very popular and with the my20s hitting dealers, it just takes one person to go in that lot to see it and its gone. Abother thing to look at is for my20, the ltd model now has the fx4 pkg opt so youll get a nicer interior and ltd perks as well

The FX4 package comes with all the towing things except two: the aforementioned trailer brake controller and the pro-trailer backup assist. The trailer brake controller can be installed by any dealer for ~$500. The pro-trailer backup assist is a bit of a gimmick that lets you use a little wheel on the dashboard to "steer" the trailer. Not very useful if you already know how to back up a trailer*. Note that you can get both the FX4 and the HD trailer towing package which gets you all the goodies...

*Until you have to back down a road for any distance.

That depends on whether or not you're comparing to a non-FX4 with the towing package or to a non-FX4 without the towing package. Because kinda like how the FX4 package gets you a bunch of the towing goodies, the towing package will get you a bunch of the FX4 goodies: like the terrain management system, the two-speed center differential, and the lockable rear differential.
