Hi All,
I have no idea what's in it now, but it was changed by the dealer when I bought it at just over 80K miles.
The dealer likely install Motorcraft 5W20 synthetic blend and a Motorcraft filter. Great, reasonably priced combination, especially if you are a DIY (I get mine at Walmart).

I am pretty sure Ford now recommends 5W30 on all current EcoBoost engines.

To the OP:

There are so many advice of different types of oils and filters and it's your discretion in choosing, best advice stick to what your owners manual says in the type of oil you are suppose to use. The only thing I don't suggest is the oil intervals I wouldn't trust changing your oil every 7K miles, best at 5K instead. I have a 2008 Expd Limited it's mostly stock with no MODS it has 207K+ miles, I change my oil diligently due to I travel everywhere with this truck.

Here is my latest oil report. Note that I had a case of Mobil 1 0w20 laying around at that time. It was supposed to go into my ex's Honda (before she became my ex 2 years ago), so this latest report doesn't use 5w20 nor 5w30. In any case, I'm going 10k miles without deviating much from the Universal averages. My previous interval (changed in Feb of this past year) was abnormal. It was Girl Scout Cookie season, and my vehicle was the chase car. It spent several days slowly creeping through cold neighborhoods while the girls went door-to-door to sling their boxes of overpriced sugar. I probably had more than 200 hours of idling in 20-40'F weather during this interval, which is why the metals were higher. That interval was with 5w30 and a K&N filter. Previous intervals used 5w20 and a K&N filter. I purchased this vehicle at 211k miles. I normally drive 75%hwy, 25% city.

All that being said, a 10k change interval is certainly not a bad idea. My results show that I'm very close to the Universal Averages, which I believe are for a 5k mile change interval.

I share this for those of you that can be open minded on breaking from established paradigms...

My oil analysis came back fine at 8640 miles using synthetic. This is following the last time I changed at over 15K miles as seen towards the end of the following post. https://www.expeditionforum.com/thr...cam-follower-issues.37958/page-10#post-350337

This time, due to my son's error - I am not running my regular choice of oil - Mobil 1. This time it was Mobil Super Synthetic. I was comfortable with the 15K interval with Mobil 1 based on the last results (and my prior experiences), but since the difference between these two oils is as clear as mud, I thought I'd do a check near mid cycle to make sure all was well. Needless to say the oil is still in the truck, I'll likely go to 15K again based on this report.

PLEASE NO ONE START THE INSULTS. We are all (I hope) mature citizens that can choose on our own. I choose to run longer intervals because most of my adult engineering life I've learned that's what these oils can do. I'm simply sharing this as information for others who wish to save a nickel or enjoy the academic exercise. For those of you that think this is heresy, I respect that. I do not wish to argue with any of you the merits or demerits of our choices.

I will post again at end of oil life or perhaps 12.5K miles when I draw another sample and have it analyzed.

To summarize, we have 1 sample at 15K miles in my expedition with Mobil 1 that was fine, but likely time to change. We now have another sample with Mobil Super Synthetic at it 55% of that mileage, with IMHO the attendant reduction in wear materials.

Use the information as you see fit. As an FYI I've run extended intervals of 15K or so for all vehicles I've ever owned beyond warranty. I've never had an issue. Again, sorry to have to say this - but please spare me from any denigrating comments.

The oil dumpers stuck, in the pre-oil filter 1950s, still insist on 3000 mile oil changes. No reason to change the oil before the analysis says to. But it won't hurt and oil is cheap.

How much time on the oil? Just curious.

I change my oil when my cars tell me to and they time out before they mile out so they get new oil annually.

I change mine every 5k because up until very recently the expy has been driven about 95% citywith lots of stop and go and a fair amount of idling. Mobil 1 full synthetic. This time it actually got 10w30 because I thought I had a jug of 5 out there and all of our other vehicles use 10w30. Oil was already drained and it was 90 degrees outside so used what I had. Been in about 4k miles and roughly 4 months, no issues. It's now 11 with a -2 windchill so I guess we'll see if it's an issue with the cold. I doubt it though. Never has been in any other motor ove owned and being the 2v it's not as picky anyway.

Chuck S - per the report 11 months. As a point of reference most is in town driving with 1 or 2 1450 mile trips thrown in each year. I also tow a 7000# boat/trailer locally which also gets one 500 mile trip in the Florida summer each year as well.

I'm only putting on about 7000 miles/year on my '17 so the oil/filter gets changed at the "or 12 months" interval. I've been curious about oil dilution with fuel and have a Blackstone sample scheduled for just prior to the next oil change. My lil' Honda gets a sample check annually. Pure synthetic in all my cars (and lawn mowers ;) ).

In South Florida we don't worry about the 12 month tradition - it never gets cold enough here!
