Update - actually yes I have seen the above video, that is the actuator on top that I already replaced. Like you mentioned in the next post, my tapping culprit seems to be coming from lower near the floor board in the center.

Did you watch FordTech's video on replacing the front temp actuator ? Do you have split zone front AC ? ( separate driver / passenger front temp control...). There are two actuators if you have split zone front AC, but only one if you have the standard ( one temp switch ). If you have split zone AC there is a actuator on top, and on the bottom of the HVAC box. Single zone only has the actuator up top.

There are 2 actuators on the single zone also, one for the zone and one for the temp.

I watched that video and changed that actuator. I just left that rear screw that's so hard to get to out. The two seem to hold it just fine! Unfortunately, that didn't solve my problem, so I'm assuming either I got a bad actuator or it's the other one (it was a genuine Ford part, on-line order, can't remember where it came from... wasn't Amazon...). Sound seems to be coming from the center. Is there a video or description of the location of the second one? I have the dual temp (driver/passenger) system... heated and cooled seats if that helps, and front/rear heat/AC. I noted that RockAuto lists an upper and lower blend door for dual-temp models, but can't find any info on replacing anything but the one as shown in the video. Is that the upper or lower???

I did find a video showing the lower on a 2011. Is that similar to the 2005???

Sorry about all the edits -- I was looking in another window as I was replying to this and kept finding little hints... but not really what I was looking for!!

Enter the part# when searching on youtube for help. Amazon has the Motorcraft parts straight from Motorcraft warehouse. Cheaper & faster. I shop rockauto also.
You can also get a FORD repair CD on ebay cheap.
