The most reliable year pre teeny weeny forced air ecos?

And what was best year of 5.0 mainly past all the cam phaser and oblong cylindrical distortion issues?

My opinion is the best year for the 5.4 is 2014, had a few upgrades over time and power was up to 320 hp and 390 lb ft on E-85. The 5.0 oblong cylinder problem was only in the first year 2011 trucks, any 5.0 after 2011 won’t have that tick. I’ve yet to hear of any engines blowing up due to the oblong cylinder thing anyway, lots of 2011 trucks still running around over 200k with that tick.

My friend has a 2011 XLT 5.5’ Bed F-150 with the 5.0, his has been good. There are pros and cons to the F-150. One thing I notice is my Expedition EL with the 5.4 Triton and 3.73s has more low end grunt than his 5.0 F-150 5.5’. The Expedition EL also feels more solid to me, I’d attribute this to the extra curb weight. The F-150 has more power once you rev up no contest, the 5.0 can breath. Also the bed is nice to put things in.

I also prefer the Expeditions steering wheel to the 150. But I do love the swoop in the F-150 doors.

Prior to 2005, just like the expeditions.

The navi calls for premium fuel in that 32v so keep that in mind if you do much driving. Around here that's closing in on $85 a tank.

Yes but most run fine on midgrade.
Some are fine with no pinging on regular.
The first 2 years on Navi 98and 99 were 5.4 2 valve or what they called standard or 16 valve back then.
2000 went to 32v or 4 valve per cyl.
We hated that because they were harder to work on.
2004 last year or standard 5.4.
2005 has 3v with phasers. 2006 got ZF 6 sp trans which was a BMW trans.
I specifically bought my 03 because I only wanted an 03 or 04 so I could have flat rear floor and no cam phasers and a 4r75w trans.

Selling it if anyone interested.
Near mint cond. ZERO rust. Rockers perfect! 119k

Respect for the above opinions, probably based on actual facts.....but my '99 was my fav by far of the two I personally owned. It had a very slow weep on the drivers side rear head but it held as long as I had it.

Funny, I thought I might have an issue moving to the V6 and yes, I do miss the 8-stroke heartbeat.....you know what I mean. The 6 is fine, a great engine that I really like but it's a bit louder and it's almost like a child where the 8 is the grownup. I know, strange analogy but its 5am...
