Why are so many interested in that underpowered diesel? Its 277HP guys. It makes 100 less HP than our standard eco boost and the torque is similar. Its going to be an absolute turd on the highway. Sure it'll be easier on fuel, but why would anyone buy a Suburan sized vehicle and worry about MPG? I wish mine had 500 horse and made 10 mpg, I could care less about fuel. Over the life of a vehicle fuel savings don't add up tp nearly what people think they do.

The small diesels are weak but good for those who hyper mile I guess lol. The F-150 3.0 PS is 0-60 in like 9 seconds. For reference a F-150 with the old 4.6 3V will leave the new PowerStroke at a stop light....JS

And even the 2.7L Ecoboost will make it look absolutely SILLY at a drag race.

I'd obviously have to drive it and see if can't get out of its own way... And I'd be interested in gain in milage while towing but honestly I could care less about hp especially peak hp. Where I live it's flat and I don't plan on tracking my 3 row SUV. All I care about is torque and more importantly here, where that torque is in the power band. We are spoiled by our EBoosts. Those NA V8s will most likely feel slower because the linear torque curve. Unless you wind out your vehicle regularly peak numbers mean nothing.

My dad has the Range Rover diesel and he gets over 30mpg on the hiway and is plenty quick. Obviously a smaller vehicle but the gains can be worthwhile...

The maintenance costs and initial costs will never cover their fuel savings. Its just not gonna happen. These new Diesels are sooooo over-complicated, they WILL need work and that will negate all your fuel savings.

My Buddys brand new Cummins Eco-Diesel just threw a rod at 20K going down the highway, Chrysler told him it was happening often because the EGR is defective but they don't know how to fix it, so take and blow it up again and then maybe they'll have a fix figured out for it. Sad but true.

This is why Ford just came out with the 7.3L Godzilla....people are starting to stray away from Diesel if they don’t tow fifth wheels or heavy items all the time. Unloaded the 7.3 Zilla will run right with the 6.7L PowerStroke, and for most towing duties it is overkill as it is. Diesel still has its place, those hot shot trucking or towing huge campers are still better off with diesel but those Diesels are very different from these light duty ones.

It feels like the urea injection and all the complicated emissions equipment is the weak link long term on modern diesels.

True statements! My father has blown a rod out of the side of his Ram EcoDiesel twice now. It has been in the shop forever waiting on some HP fuel pump part. I thought the new Gen was supposed to fix these problems. I guess not. I love diesels, but the reasons to have one are, I tow heavy and I tow a lot. Other than that there is no reason to have one. With the urea, emissions, ECM’s and fragile HP fuel pumps longevity is off the plate.

I'll say this, my old pre-emissions Duramax LBZ is a riot. Tuned, its making 550Hp and just under 1,000 ft lbs with no DPF, no Urea, No EGR, No Cat, etc! lol. I looked under the hood of my Buddys F250 with the new Diesel engine in it, and OMG was that one complicated mess under that hood. It might be good, but complicated beyond words. I couldn't even imagine owning one of those. My Buddys are farmers and they always had diesels for years, and they won't even touch a newer diesel truck, they all switched back to gas because the new diesels are so complicated and problematic.

Point being, STAY AWAY from ALL newer diesels unless you are OK dealing with all the BS repairs. ALL 3 American builders have problems, its just too complicated to burn them as clean as the EPA idiots want them to burn.
