Aspen03 - I agree. I think I was just looking for someone to confirm what I was already thinking. :) So, I went ahead and ordered 4 new KYB Strut-Plus shock assemblies and I'll put them on next weekend.

Mako

Planning to do the same this spring/summer, mostly just because theres no way it can be functioning 100% w 217k. I dont have any handling issues but I know things have to be tired. Never driven one new so it's hard to relate but yeah. It's not that much and can do the work so fairly small investment given the alternative. Need to do some research as to what. I'd like a slightly more firm ride just because when its loaded with all 6 of us and packed to the roof it's got some lean/roll. I'm spoiled by how well it rides though and a little nervous to mess with it, it's more smooth than my mothers 2018 Camry.

06 2WD EB with just over 172k. Second owner, had it for 8 years and no complaints until 2020. Now it's giving me a run for my money which is why I joined this forum.

04 SSV XLT. go it at just under 100k, now just over 100k. bought it from the dealership that got it from a fire department, so regular maintenance on county money. looked "Dealer new" when i picked it up, but it's not perfect - I had it checked at my mechanic before I took it. needs a rear rotor and a front ball joint.

‘05 XLT NBX. 5.4. 225k. Transmission @ 165k and engine at 215k. Bought with 8 miles on clock in AZ until 2009. CO until 2013 and MA since. (Towed a lot until 2017 when I picked up a 2008 F150 (from AZ) with 83k now 150k.) Regular MTC but when we left CO we towed a 9x15 trailer with garage (heavy) stuff to MA and then I was sick on Dyalisys and received transplant in 2015. Work has been tough and keeping up was hard. (Reason engine failed). BUT still virtually rust free so. A $5000 engine was cheaper than a $20 k used unit that I don’t know anything about.

2004 XLS with 4.6l at about 180K
bought new and had some issues
New plugs at 80K at dealer
102k it blew a plug out. took it to dealer because i wanted it done right. Long story short i believe there was al chips on top of piston and first 45 miles after work blew a hose in piston. also had all new injectors installed at same time, and all new rubber. got a ford reman engine and the ford reman had a tick and the cam hold down was cracked, got a new cylinder head under warranty.
Then the cats had issues because of the oil dump. replaced with walkers and the one failed relatively quickly and replaced under warranty. And all new motorcraft o2 sensors. And i also did the walker exhaust all the way back.

A 2 sets of coils as well... motorcraft in there now. Had accel at one point

Struts and springs replaced with quick lift ranchos.
front wheel bearings - timken brand
front heater blend door motor
alternator - forget which one i used but was from local auto parts store
a few batteries - maybe 2 ? last was is agm from advanced auto
front upper and lower arms with ball joints
New wheels - original were steel and looking bad
painted side plastic with duplicolor bumper paint
neoprene seat covers.
regular diet of mobil 1 5w30 and wix filter
amsoil in rear diff
rear abs sensors
took plastic stuff out by oil filter... easier to change filter
and the front driver seat broke at hinge, got new used on from scrap yard
front caliper seized and replaced was bad too ... ugh finally okay
trans drop pan and filter too and transfer case

issues now ....

inefficient o2 code every now and then on bank 2 -- i just clear it for now. passed emissions :) all the monitors were set
Some oil leaks but who cares
rear diff seal leak ... just fluid
rocker on driver side showing some rust
radiator support driver side rust.
front windows go up slow -- just hit tracks with some silicone spray

The only work done by me except the darn spark plugs and engine replacement and head. i shy away from ford plugs and rather pay someone else to do those.

I usually keep them until about 200k but i thought this one would be 300k because of the reman engine but i dont know. we will see.

I cannot afford a new expedition so i guess keep fixing this one. Then i will probably end up with one of cars pretending to be a suv. Honda passport? -- trans issues and timing belt and some other stuffKia telluride , way too new or many one of those ford broncos on ranger platform?

2003 5.4 Eddie B. 211,000 miles. Houston, TX

Shocks/struts, twice
Numerous coils
Plugs
Heater connection
Heater valve
Various vacuum hoses
PCV
Starter motor
Flex plate (used indy shop)
Driver side VCG
Inlet manifold
Engine mounts
Ball joints upper & lower
Tie rod ends
Seat cover bottoms
Heater blend motors in rear
Serpentine belt
Windshield washer tubing rodent damage.
Must be other stuff i've forgotten... Alternator, there ya go. Rotors 'n pads of course. And a few batteries...

About to do rear wheel bearings (tonight).

Best vehicle i've ever owned. Would buy another in a heartbeat. I do as much of my own wrenching as possible.
Now i list it all out it makes it sound like the story of the yard broom i've had for 25 years; it's had 3 new handles and 5 new brush heads.

Had 2003, 130000 miles. Had some crunching in front spindles, differential or transfer case . Repair was in range of its worth though no otherissues. Traded in on 2016, now has 59,900 miles Only issue was refriferant line to rear area. Ford had to fix $1,100.00 Runs great otherwise
