Just got home from seeing Jim Gaffigan...(guy is hilarious)...and now the Expy won’t start. Battery is good...everything turns on...just doesn’t turn over at all.

Prob the starter? I know in some vehicles there’s a switch that’ll prevent your car from starting if the trans isn’t in park or foot on the brake...but I shifted thru the gears, rolled the vehicle a little, turned the steering wheel some, but no go.

I spose at 170k miles these things happen. Any tips on getting it replaced? Dealer best bet? Don’t think I’ll tackle this one in subzero temps in my driveway.

So...just went out and it started. I shut it down and it started again.
What gives? Now I’m at a loss.

Ok...random theory:

I have an aftermarket remote start.

Today, I went to Ford and had them cut/program two additional keys. I don't know if it's related, but is it possible that Ford programming the new keys could screw with the aftermarket remote start...thereby causing my Expy engine not to turn over...but still have full accessory power?

My Expy started just fine after my visit to Ford, and it's starting just fine now too. Just can't figure out why it wouldn't start earlier.

Shane, your experience is directly related to your choice in comics.....if you had seen Amy, the engine would likely have seized....so you got off easy man.

Teasing of course, now that you're golden on the "starter"

Jims material is sometimes very good but that voice....can't stand his voice. LOL

Did you have it towed home? Sometimes the teeth just get stuck in a bad spot.
Smack on the starter and it will fire right up.
If you had it towed the jarring of the ride could have freed it up.

But also some teeth could be starting to go bad getting you to that spot. I’d pull the starter check the teeth and voltage levels.

I have not checked starter prices on these things but at 170k dependent upon price since I already had it out may just replace it.

With that many miles I would just replace the starter as a starting point for diagnosis, that's about when they go anyway. Also I would like to have remote start but cutting that many wires on an intricate system scares me.

Update:

Took it to Ford to ask about the key programming maybe causing the issue. While my Expy was pulled in the service area...it wouldn’t start. At least I didn’t have to pay for it to be towed!

Turns out it was the starter. I’ve never seen one stop and start and then stop and start working before. I learned something new!

And spent $420 to have it replaced. [emoji2357]

What brand battery?
Around here 930CCA was the highest I could find.
