Does anyone know what diameter brake line is used between the master cylinder and the abs unit on the 2006 expedition? Also looking for the flare nuts size as well. I am using the copper nickle tubing to replace the lines going to the wheels however the lines running from the master cylinder to the abs unit are a larger diameter. Thanks for any help.

I not do the runs from the master cylinder to the abs unit. I did however, change brake line from the abs unit to the front passenger wheel on a 2003. I used a brand-new oringal pre bent line(don't do that). I had to add some cuts, double flare fittings, and unions to get it in.
The fittings were for 3/16 line. Here's my adventure. https://www.expeditionforum.com/threads/2003-brake-line-diagram.40965/. Yes I think the line from the master cylinder is slightly thicker.

The truck does not use the common double flare fitting. It uses an incompatible bubble fitting.

The flaring tool required is different. I bought a flaring tool with extra bits to make them double flares. I hadn't realized the difference yet by then. I found flare style unions easily and the unions /fittings were readily available. I'll probably get a bubble kit in the future.

Do you have a bubble flaring tool?

I found this helpful when I was learning about brake fittings. Ford left the double in favor of bubble flare some time ago

Thanks for that info. Yes I have a mastercool flaring tool that does bubble flares. I have used Bubble flares on everything for the brakelines so far. I will keep an eye on this post.

3/16 line but the ends vary.
The ones that go into the ABS unit are usually a large nut and thread.
You can cut the line and use the old fittings if you want. You can also take on up and buy a pack of them too.

Yours will be bubble metric lines.

Bubble is by far the most common used on brake lines since the late 80s early 90s.

well to be straight about it the lines coming from the master cylinder are not 3/16ths. I went to napa but they weren't much help. On the bright side ebay has both lines from the master cylinder in stainless steel lines for $30. So I ordered them just because I'm tired of running around trying to find the correct fittings. after I install the new lines I will look into the old fittings and find out what size they are exactly. Everything else is 3/16ths though and has been fairly straight forward replacing the rustly lines. I would have liked to use the copper nickel lines on the master cylinder as well but I would also like this project to be over soon. Thanks to all who commented on this tread. I really do appreciate it. Perhaps I will post a few pictures when I am done for those who might be interested.

Replacing brake lines will never be fun or easy work. I'm really really good at it because I've done so many but I still despise doing it but I actually despise being under cars totally. It is true that some of the front lines from the master cylinder to the ABS can be a thicker diameter. They almost always have the larger nuts on them even if the tubing is the same size like I mentioned earlier. It's not that big of a deal to get what you need you just have to cut the ends off the line that you're going to replace with a pair of wire diagnal cutters and unscrew the fitting and take each one with you along with measurements so you know what you need to get.

Well I am still working on my brake lines. I got the lines from the ABS to the master cylinder off ebay for $30. they were 1/4" lines. I got my connector for the last fitting I couldnt find also off ebay by buying a used abs module that had the same configuration as mine brake line wise. Question, does anyone know on the ABS module which brake line goes where? I'd like to be sure of my work at the time I was pretty sure I had the lines going to the correct port by doing them one at a time. However since I started this a while back I would just like to check my work. I know that out of the four brake lines the one furthest to the passenger side is the right front wheel. And so if anyone has a similar setup and could verify which line goes to the left front the drivers front wheel and then the rear wheels I would very much appreciate it. Thanks

I can't help you with a schematic and don't have one here to take pictures of. I always just do them one at a time that way there's not much room for error. If you guys are going to do brake lines repeatedly or in the future you should forget about buying pre-made lines as their overpriced. It's just not worth the extra expense. All you have to do is buy the right size thread at the part store and brake lines are $8-10 each then for the ABS and some master cylinders you just need the adapter fitting which is about 3.29.
I replaced every brake line on a 95 Lincoln Town Car a few years ago and just did everyone on a 99 LeSabre and the total price for everything was about 60 bucks per car.
