Yeah, since they finally did the Independent rear, it finally is capable of the space to match the Expy and the flat load floor.

Actually, the “old” Suburban 2015-2020 was already significantly larger in cargo area behind the 3rd row. The dimensions listed don’t do the Suburban/Yukon XL justice as the back of the Expy Max is “curved out” whereas the GMs are flat, meaning the longest point on the Max is closer to a point but the GM includes the entire lip. Go compare for yourselves.

Now the new GM (2021), omg, they grew even bigger. So if you need bigger then that’s the one. I personally don’t need that much space but appreciate those that do.

I own both GM and Ford. I like them both, each for their own merits, so I'm not biased one way or another.

I agree that the Expedition is great. As long as nothing needs repair, the engines seem great. If I had money to buy new, I think I'd spring for one. I'm on the fence whether I'd buy a used Expedition with the Ecoboost though. If poor quality oil was used, or if oil changes were neglected, you may be looking at some very expensive repairs. If GM's pushrod engine needs new lifters, it's not a bad job to pull the heads, clean things up, install new lifters, and put it back together.

Being an Expedition forum, I know that no one is talking about the Explorer or smaller Fords. However, I wouldn't touch a Ford FWD platform new or used, at any price. I want nothing to do with their internal water pump, I don't want to take a chance on carboned valves in the Ecoboost, timing chain guides, cam phasers, etc. I consider the Ford FWD platforms crap. The last good Explorer they made was in 2010. (I know the 4.6 in the 2010 may have timing chain and phaser isues, but that's not beyond my ability to fix fairly easily.) The 2020 Explorer may be much better, but there is way more tech in those than I want. My wife finds the tech in the new Fords confusing. Trust me, there will be no convincing her otherwise.

I cannot speak for the latest decades of Tahoe's as I haven't driven one, but my 2002 Tahoe is definitely not crap. Sure, it drives more like a truck, it's not quiet like a sedan or a Ford SUV, but that doesn't make it crap. When I test drove several 15 year old SUV's a few years ago, the Expedition interiors didn't hold up at all and were all crap.

Not necessarily crap but underwhelming. Every vehicle has a chance of being bulletproof or a lemon, so m.j o point of judging reliability. and specifically speaking, the gms are mass produced to an extreme level so they have more of a chance to be problematic. However, nothing gm does with the tahoe makes it class leading, except maybe efficiency. Its not the roomiest(f/t), not the fastest(n), not the smoothest(subjectively f/n), not the most capable(f), not the most user friendly(t), not the most advanced(f), and not the most value proportioned(n). This may change with the new model though.

The same could be said about ANY model vehicle.
Like all models, buy the cheaper trim/model, get less. That’s why they make the Lincoln Black Label and Cadillac Escalade Platinum.

Same can be said about escalade and to an extent, the navi. The nav now is class leading in space, but thats about it, the previous gen esc is far from class leading in any category. The current nav was near class leading upon introduction, but with the new x7 and gls out, im sure they outclass the nav and current esc in drivability and interior appts. Even the new esc interior doesnt look as nice or posh as the new germans, cant speak on drivability yet.
