Do the dome lights come on also, or just the red indicator light in the instrument panel?

All the lights stay on and the red light stays on. Ive just turned off all the lights off so they dont kill the battery.

That (turn lights off by spinning wheel to off) is what I was going to suggest. I used to have this problem all the time .... back when I used car washes. Stopped going to car wash, problem went away. Last summer I hosed the vehicle (03 Expy) off really well and it came back. I'd like to know what wire / sensor / whatever is to blame too but since I found a way to avoid it I threw in the towel. Some people say spray WD40 around door latchs.

If the radio is ON and you turn OFF the ignition key, does the radio immediately turn OFF ? If so, it's most likely one of the front door jamb switches that's failed. Each door has one located at the bottom of the latch and you have to remove the door panel to access it. The two front doors will turn off the radio when they're opened. The rears do not. It's usually the driver's door switch that fails first, just due to the amount of use it gets. Be careful when ordering replacement switches because there is a different orientation for left and right sides.

If you haven't already replaced the switch shown above you can spray each door "plunger switch" with WD40 and push the switch in and out with your fingers. I have had several older 1st and 2nd gen Expeditions and this has happened a few times. It has always worked for me. YMMV.
