I used a Motorcraft 'paper filter' and Motorcraft Full SYN and had a start rattle on my non-phaser, Lincoln INTECH 32V. I switched to Mobil 1 oil and tried Mobil 1, Fram ultra synthetic and Napa platinum filters and had no issues. The owners manual on the 2013 calls for XO-5w20-QFS(syn blend) or XO-5w20 -QFS(full syn), not conventional. Interesting, it shows XO-5w20 -QFS only for Canadian vehicles. Never buy a used 3V. The damage may already be done.
I just bought one and it purrs like a kitten, the "damage" can be done to anything.

For a couple of years I was buying a 6 gallon "bag in a box" (like cheap Sangria) of Motorcraft 5W-20 Full Synthetic oil for $95. It was usually available on ebay or Amazon. It seems they stopped making that bag-in-box arrangement and the stuff is now EXPENSIVE. I switched to the Semi-Synthetic with 12 Quarts costing about $80. Gosh! Twice the price for a cheaper oil.

I started using Valvoline Full Synthetic from WalMart. I got sick of paying $60 for semi-synth Motorcraft oil at the parts stores.

Preference? Amsoil 5W-30. Either Motorcraft or Amsoil filters. No, I'm not a dealer.
Want to quantify the difference between Fram and Motorcraft or Amsoil (Made by Wix) filters? Take them out of the box and weigh them.
It's a clear indicator of what's on the inside. I have been involved in testing of both. The performance differences are clear. If you're willing to make the investment, cut open one of each.

To the OP:
I too don't use the 5w-30 nor full synthetic I'm sure it's far better moreover, I use from the get go 5w-20 Castro Semi-Synthetic high mileage. When I broke 100K I started using Bosch Distance Plus oil filters a bit expensive but I have 200+ miles on my truck while I haul a boat allot. The only thing I don't follow is the 5K oil intervals but change mine at 3,500 miles due to the hauling. As high as my mileage is I've had no problems with oil issues ever.

You don't need to follow what I use or have but if you do allot of hauling or drive allot and fast (70+mph) I'd go for the full synthetic with a high quality oil filter just my observation.

Amazon basics 0w-40 synthetic and a Fram XG2 filter (larger than the stock filter). 140Kmi
Pressure is good (25-28PSI at 180F idle with A/C on) and phasers sound fine. I change it about every 7500mi
