I wonder if the new GM truck is good?
Looks like they really thought hard into the design. They picked up on one of the navigator flaws. I wonder what else GM did better?

It will be great I’m sure. Always has been. It’s the ride that has always suffered due to rear suspension. That has changed in this gen.

No doubt the gms will be great, kinda forced to say it since they are now blueprinted copies of the ford and toyota. Just remember, ford and nissan both had rough first impressions with irs. Toyota learned from those two and better balanced its suspension but still not the best.

Still will be a gm and come standard with gm unreliability.

pretty sad they owned the market with such a weak offering and had to literally be forced at the barrel of a gun by ford to upgrade things. I was shocked at how much better the ford was when I did my due diligence test of a Chevy.

Their sales people were miffed that any one cared about second row leg room and the lack of adjustment on their vehicle. I’m surprised anyone would think that wasn’t important long ago. Let alone on the market leader. I couldn’t get my three year old in between the seats with her car seat in place.

The GM’s you tested were released 6 years ago. Back when the last gen expedition was 6 years into its 12 year run..but because of IRS the expy STILL had more comfortable rear seating.

Regarding the change I assume you mean with IRS? Funny enough GM guys are ******** about this change. They don’t want IRS for towing. And although I love the Lincoln “cloud like” ride I do sometimes miss the taught truck like handling of the GM’s.

FWIW, I owned two GM’s over the last 10 years and never had to bring them to the shop for anything other than oil changes and one time to get a stuck lifter fixed under warranty.

I'm really on the fence for my next SUV: Exp or Tahoe....

For a pre-owned vehicle, the Tahoe would be easier to work on. Even with AFM (and now DFM), it's comparatively easy to remove the heads. If you have to do that on an overhead cam that would be much more difficult.

I've had the similar coolant issues with a 2008 Explorer and 2002 Tahoe. Tahoes tend to go through the nylon fittings, and I believe the Explorer has them too, but they haven't gone yet. The Explorer has the Y pipe feeding the rear heat. It happens to pass right beside the exhaust manifold and can burn through. We almost has a disaster with that pulling a trailer up the grapevine. It held until we got to our campsite, where it was dripping constantly. That was a $1200 US repair at Ford Orange, which had to be redone back here in Canada because they installed the new pipe touching the manifold. It burned through in a year. The rear heater line hose clamps rust through, causing leaks.

The Tahoe had a leaking thermostat gasket, cracked head (I wasn't happy about that!), cracked nylon coolant adapter, water pump.

So, they have both had their share of problems as they age.

im talking about all of it. That vehicle isn’t in the same league as the expy.

I still view these SUVs as trucks. I don't expect them to drive like cars. I don't expect them to be nimble like a car. Of course, I grew up driving 1970's Buick Lesabres, Oldsmobile 88's. It never bothered me that the steering was too easy, or that it lacked on center feel. The only thing nice about having an independent rear suspension is that you can have a lower rear deck in the back. The way I drive, I can't tell the difference between having the independent suspension (like the 2008 Ford Explorer) and the solid rear axle (2002 Tahoe).

When I was test driving used Tahoe's and Used Expys of the same vintage, the Expy's were trahsed inside. Seats all torn, not working. The interiors did not stand up.

That’s the 6 year old design not the one that’s about to roll out next month though.

Makes you wonder if chevy and ford purposefully keep from getting in sync on release dates. Keeps their fan base (not aimed at you) from ever having to seriously give the competitor a try.

Depends how you look at it... It could make buyers want to swap brands every few years...
