Hello folks,

I have a 2003 Expedition, EB, 5.4, 2 wd w/ 150k miles in great shape.

I was wondering what brake controller anybody would recommend for a travel trailer I plan on buying. It will be about 27 feet, dry weight about 5300#.

It will not be towed much at all for now. Literally 20 miles on first trip, but by law trailer sales say controller is mandatory, but they could make an exception. I do not want to compromise anybody's safety.

Please let me know.

TIA,
Dick

We used the Tuson DirecLink controller on our 2008. I had switched to it from a Tekonsha because the DirecLink ties directly into your vehicle's OBD port and uses the vehicle's sensors to provide excellent proportional braking. We got much better performance out of it overall. It was especially better at lower speeds such as in-town, campgrounds and parking lots. The biggest downside was that it was a bit more expensive than the typical inertia-based controllers. https://tusonrvbrakes.com/collections/direclink-brake-controller . Sold it when we bought our 2018 with the built-in controller. We were towing a 25' Airstream

Nice Expy you have. I had a '19 for a rental, black on black, (maybe grey). Good grief, great truck.

Thank you for the information. That little bugger is pricey but you mention it works, so thank you for the link and info!
