Thanks, Navi. I'll think on this a bit. Shop isn't open to evacuate anyway.
I thought about more and I wouldn't do that. The main reason to evacuate is to remove all water so if it is empty for a while condensation can form plus if you lose vacuum which you probably would in that amount of time it will be harder to refill if not impossible.

I paid a guy I know about $500 and I brought my own parts to do the AC. I'll tackle almost anything myself, but AC is one of the few that I have neither the tools nor the patience to deal with.

It's not that bad, you can get a cheap evacuator and the 2 gauges online and just read up on it. Not rocket science plus we can help you.

This isn't just a part change. The front and rear hold about 4lbs of refrigerant. It's not cheap($60/lb). A shop will use a machine to vacuum it out, and hold it. Using band aid products like AC PRO, are not ideal. There is air in the tube between the can and AC port. Every time freon is added, you also add a shot of air into the system. Not Good. I noticed a fine mist of oil over the engine, when my compressor went. It was 13yrs old. The shop that did mine, ordered one with a 1yr warranty for $190. They leak tested the system first. It needed a line and a condenser. The Evaporator was also replaced. I think it was only around $20. They said it has a filter. $903 later I had AC again.

Sorry and thanks, guys. I ended up bringing to a dealership. A place that's bailed me out before.

They are also going to secure and disable my sunroof, the track of which broke, and replace a trim part. After all that, estimate we be $1300.

(The part for the sunroof was going to be $1100 with maybe 1k+ in labor. It was either going to be 2 or 3k to fix).
