This is a fun thread. Thanks Fozzy.
Things I keep in the Expe... The Expe is not my main vehicle, so ironically enough I keep more in my Edge. The '17 edge has better storage options then the '16 Expedition
Basic tool kit
First-aid kit (including sanitary napkins for the ladies)
Random vehicle recovery kit which includes a strap with loop ends. 2 shackles and 2 trailer hitch pins.
Rope, a few kinds
NOCO Genius Boost (to jump start)
Jumper cables
If I'm in the vehicle I have a small bug out bag with my M&P Shield and ammo.
So funny story. We live in Utah. For vacation one year we took a trip to Oregon Coast. We started at the Redwoods and worked our way up. Instead of dragging the travel trailer that distance we decided to tent camp. Our 2nd to last day we were on our last ditch effort to finding a camping spot. It was the weekend so it wasn't going so well. We got flagged down because these 4 teenagers managed to get the Toyota Sienna minivan stuck so bad in the sand that you could not get under the front bumper. They had no way of getting out and no one was stopping. So we stopped. I had a tow strap, but it was buried in the compartment under all the gear. We have 4 kids so the Expedition was full... up to the roof and all of the back. So here I am, unloading all the gear on the rear to get to the bottom. I find my strap. I attempt to attach the strap to the Sienna. In Toyota's infinite wisdom the whole bottom of the stupid vehicle is a giant covering of some sort. The only thing I could get to is the lower a-frame on one of the wheels. But the only thing I could do with my strap is to loop it through the loop. I now have it attached, but no way of connecting it to the Expedition (I didn't have the shackles then). The only thing I had was the pin that my rear cargo container was using.... so I then unloaded that thing, pulled it off, then put the strap in the rear hitch.
I made sure that my right 2 tires were on the pavement, because the sand was very soft, put the expe in 4 low and slowly pulled the sienna out. It did it without any issues of course. I was able to pull the sienna to a point where it too had two wheels on the pavement. Then we loaded it back up.
We never did find a spot to camp but instead spent the night at a rest area... we found a motel for the next evening. It ended up being one of the funnest trips... But, moral of the story, put your first-aid kit and your recovery items at the TOP, NOT the bottom.
