You can add the factory remote and change the settings they say you can't. Myself and others have you tube videos on the install. There are / were (not sure what is still available) 2 versions of remotes. The more expensive returns a signal to remote light when started. I don't know anyone who has that or think it's worth it. With that said, the aftermarket ones can be linked to turn on the seat heater. I just like plug and play factory stuff myself

Thanks to everyone who has posted with info and instructions re: the ford remote start system and programming. The instructions were very helpful to locate the system comonents and to re-program. It seemed to go perfectly when I changed the settings for door opening and inserting the key but when I use the remote the process starts but before the starter engages I get the 3 horn beeps and the security light starts blinking in the dash.

Has anyone experienced this? I did not change any other settings and when I restored those two to default the remote start works again but you cannot open the doors or insert the key without shut down.

Not sure what you mean by inserting the key. Try changing just the door setting. Be sure the hood, all doors and windows are closed, no interior lights on.

Not sure if this thread is still active, but here goes nothing.

I have a 2010 Expedition with the remote start. Does anyone know if you have to have the dipole antenna attached for it to work. It seems that is missing from mine. Bought the car used. Everything else seems to be there. I can program the remotes, but just can't get it to start. Also, when I lock the car I get the horn feedback that is locked, then a few seconds later, I get one more honk. Don't know what that is about.

The antenna plugs into the modual. If I remember correctly it was the only thing that plug in ? so I would assume it needs to be there. The range is 50- 75' ? try it sitting inside the truck. If it works but not further away you know you need the antenna, if it doesn't work you are still 50/50.
The honks are confirmation and errors, I believe errors are 3. There also is a honk code when programming the remote start. One for on, two for off, three door window open etc. The lock honk can be turned off with the display unless you double lock it. When using the remote fob to start, it honks once to acknowledge then again just prior to cranking. This can be turned off even though they say it can't

I have a 2014 EL king Ranch expedition with the factory remote start. It has a separate key fob and I bought a spare and programmed it. Same as yours I open the door and it shut off. I found the button and led light and mounted them in the lower dash properly. The programing is on the back of the unit and there is more info downloadable on the net. I programmed out the door entry and changed the run time and a couple other features. Most dealers are ignorant to all the programing available as the unit is tagged Ford but actually made by a third party company. Sorry I forget the name now but it’s not to hard to look up.
My remote start works great and has excellent range. I can start the truck from inside Walmart. I remounted the antenna behind the rear view mirror.
I have done tons of mods to my expedition so if anyone has any questions let me know. This is my third expedition and the best one in my opinion. And I had a navigator when the first came out. I love these trucks just not a fan of the ecoboost that’s why I bought the 2014 with the 5.4. I would like a ten speed and I am thinking of a swap in the future. I actually like chrome on mine as it goes well with the ruby red metallic.
