03 EB with 4.6. recently replaced radiator with after market radiator off Amazon. Has been working fine for the past two weeks. Today the passenger side transmission line going into the radiator came off and emptied the transmission. The line just snapped back in, and I put 10 quarts of transmission fluid in and got it home. What can I do to keep this from happening again? Going on a long trip next weekend. Thanks.

Just a wild guess, but it might be that whoever put that line on after radiator replacement ... didnt do it right so it fell off. Now it's on right? Is that possible? Any pictures?

It is possible that I didn't connect it correctly the first time. But like I said, I've been driving it around for two plus weeks, probably 3 or more tanks of gas since then. But yeah, since this was the first time I had to deal with the ford quick connects on the transmission lines for the radiator, I might not have gotten it seated correctly.

I'm trying to add the image, here's the URL if it doesn't work.

This is after I got it home, cleaned up the area so I can tell if it's still leaking, and engine running.

Is that black plastic "keeper" on there right? It almost looks like the new brass fitting is incompatible with that. Hard to tell. Doesnt look like its seated against the raised portion on the line or hooked into brass fitting. I just replaced my line and fitting (2003) and it looks like this. If you dont think the keeper is doing its job you could make something out of wire?

You are correct. I couldn't get the keeper to seat on there. Do you have a part number for the fitting you used? Thanks.

If I can replace the fitting with one that works with the keeper, I'll probably have to get another radiator local and replace it this weekend. Maybe O'Rielly's or Autozone. I'll take a good look at the fittings first though.

You need another radiator already?

It was this part, but mine is a 2003XLT

If you just want the keeper to work, jerry rig something?
I think I would try dental floss unless you had some copper wire or ???
Just wrap it around, tie it, circle back, bottem, top, interlock it, back around, rinse & repeat .... to grandmothers house we go!! Make a cocoon for overkill!! Top it off with Gorilla tape for double overkill. Plus it will have a minty flavor.

I went ahead and bought a new radiator from O'Reilly's. I verified that the keeper will work with these fittings. Now I'm just going to have to swap it this radiator again.

Glad you got it fixed! Without the keeper it would have eventually blown off again. I just had a trans rebuilt... $3200 including pull and install (4x4, 2003 model). Not bad considering it's built heavy duty for towing. Mine had just over 100K miles on it and lost 3rd and 4th gears suddenly. Shop suspected it was a broke snap ring, which is common for those years. They had a rebuilt unit on the shelf, so it was a quick job -- just three days! They keep common trannys in stock, rebuild the old ones when shop is slow. Good way to work!
