Hello,

I am considering buying a 2008 expedition. I have been reading about the problems some people have with breaking spark plugs, and want to avoid that scenario. The expedition I am considering was a trade in with just over 100,000 miles. I don’t know if previous owner changed plugs according to schedule, so I was going to do it as soon as I got the expy.

I understand that engines manufactured after 10/9/2007 don’t use the easily broken plug.
The carfax lists 12/07 as the Vehicle manufacture date. The seller of the vehicle sent me a photo of a sticker on the engine, showing 12/11/07 “Windsor, Ca”.

Can I purchase this expy confident that I will not run into the breaking spark plug issue?

Thanks for your time.

Sounds right. Another way to tell is the color of the coil boots.

Brown = good

Black = bad

Thank you for the rapid reply. I will take a look at the boots too.

I figured this one was made outside of the questionable time frame due to the 12/07 completed date. But, I was unsure how the manufacturing process went. Could an engine that was built in October or earlier been installed in a car a few months later?

The sticker photo the seller sent me was the only one on the engine he found.

This will be my first expy. I love my old 94 ranger. It has gone far beyond 200,000 miles. I have more problems with leaks at this point than anything mechanical. Hoping to mimic that experience with the expy.
