Changed my oil today..............

My new to me '07 Navigator finally approached the 5k mile change time since the seller had just changed it but when I went to remove the pan plug it had sealer around it and I had to get out the breaker bar, and luckily it wasn't stripped. Then the off brand oil filter was on so tight I had to get out my 16" channel lock pliers. After mangling the filter for 20 minutes that finally came off but then the little pan some engineer had bolted to the crossmember to "direct the oil flow" was spilling oil out the front and back at the same time so that thing went in the garbage. Now it's full of synthetic oil with a Motorcraft filter and it will be a breeze next time. :pepper:

Just did mine and new step colder plugs on my 2016 today. Full synthetic for the win since day 1!

Sounds like your dealer uses the same policy and procedures mine did. Had the exact same experience when I changed my oil the first time.

That little pan works great, Have had no spillage.
How did you have the vehicle lifted. if you use ramps it spills off the back spout, level lift like at a shop/dealer it spills off the front.
I also installed a Fumoto valve, makes for a much cleaner and quicker oil change.

Actually a slower change (restriction). Yes I use the ramps but that won't change so the little pan went in the garbage. Did I mention I HATE those Fumotos?

I don't use any lift. The Expedition is high enough I can get under it with no problem, as is my Explorer. Love not having to use ramps or a jack. [emoji16]

I have a 3'x4', 1/4" piece of plywood, I use for frame drips. I park on it, during/after an oil change, for a few days. My filter sits above the front diff.

I don't mind where the filter is located. I've only changed oil once and the drip pan worked perfectly. No oil anywhere but in the drain pan.

My oil filter was not hard to remove. Neither was the drain plug.

Now, the other day I changed oil/filter on my wife's Outlander. Last one was at the dealer last summer during it's 30,000 mile checkup. Not sure what they used to tighten up the filter, but this time the little oil filter wrench darned near ripped the bottom of the filter off when the filter body/walls ruptured, crumpled and tore. Knocked a chunk of skin loose on the knuckle of my right trigger finger that bled like a stuck pig (finger nail sized chunk of skin.) Required removing some of the plastic air deflector/guard stuff (really not too bad) and a big pair of channel locks to grab what was left and break it loose.

Last Mitsubishi dealer oil change the Outlander gets.
