Been reading, and told recently, that the air ride suspension system has a softer torsion bar than the standard suspension system. I cannot find part #’s for either item to see if they are the same bar or not. I’m assuming that since the front air ride delete includes coil over shocks, that they are load assist, and the torsion bar is indeed softer.

Can anyone confirm this? My second Expedition is air ride converted. It’s also pretty tore up, it’s my retired race truck.. I want to swap to the softer torsion bars if that is indeed the case..

I juat got a 2000 Eddie Bauer with 4 point air ride but someone converted the rear to coils but still air in front and problem is the front driver side is level but the front passanger side is almost sitting on tire. So i thought ill just buy regular shocks and then i read id have to also swap my bars

Monroe sells a great set of coil over to replace the front air so that you can keep the torsion bars..

Well $150 for the monroe set up. For that price i can get the torsion bars. I think I will probably go with the torsion bars cause it keeps more options open for later.

Fir anyone interested in something other then the Monroe option I found some made by Strutmaster $300 for the set but they look really nice and says they dont make them till you order them. Which makes me wonder if they could make them a little longer to lift the front an inch or 2 higher?

edwinhess - Thank you for the info. I'm in the same boat - converting four corner air ride to conventional suspension. Thank you for the info on front suspension, what do I need to convert the rear?
I want to install a 1.5" lift. Planning for new torsion keys in the front once I get new torsion bars.
Thank you again for the help.

The rear you can use 1 or 2 “ pucks to sit on top of the coil springs and then get new shocks that with a 3-4” clearance

2001 Expi - I have deleted the air ride front and rear. I installed the non-air ride torsion bars and the Supreme 3" leveling kit keys up front. Converted the rear to coil springs and added the 2" Supreme spacers.
However - I have a problem - the new Bilstein 4600's only fit in place when the the suspension is bottoming on the bump stops. I need help finding the correct front shock absorbers.

I had to call Rancho told them I was having the same problem with my rears and they gave me a model number for Extended Shocks for Custom ride height. I just switched my rears a week ago. And I had a pair of new RC 4” fronts lying around and put those on now mine sits very well at 4”.
