Hey everyone, I have a 2004 Expedition Eddie Bauer and today it had a problem. I first noticed some slight steam coming from the corner of the hood but since I was at the car wash at the time I presumed it was just water steam and since there was no lights on the dash I figured I was fine. Started driving back home and when I stopped to make a left turn my "check gage" light came on. Then the check engine light and the words popped up saying "reduced power to engine" and it also said it was overheating. I pulled over and the smoke started coming out again from the back corner of the engine bay on the passenger side. There was fluid that was the same color as engine oil on alot of parts in the engine bay (light brown) and also it was leaking a few different fluids from the bottom. Some of the fluid was pinkish but the other fluid was the light brown. I took off the engine oil cap and some steam started to come out. It also smelled like burnt plastic. I didnt drive it any farther and got a ride home. Anybody know whats going on?

Check to see if coolant is coming from heater valve on passenger side above engine. Will cause lots of problems like you described. If the engine overheats, it will cut back the power to try to keep the engine from seizing. You did the right thing shutting it down.

:welcome: Let us know what you find. Could be a fairly simple fix. These are nice 'trucks'

You overheated it. Either didn't have water, had a leak or the water pump's toast. Hope you didn't drive far. Find the leak, fix it, add coolant and go.

Took it to the mechanic and turns out the heater control valve snapped, I'm replacing the hoses and clamps too. Looks like its going to cost about $800.

You must have some deep pockets. $80 would have been high for me but I am very picky so I do it myself. More time than money. Look into the condition of the vacuum hoses since they are in the same area :beatdeadhorse5:
