2016 Expedition No CarPlay

I watched a few videos that showed replacing the USB module and updating to Sync 3 to add CarPlay. I was going to try this but when I checked for an update it says that mine is up to date with Sync 4.something. Apparently this only works with Sync 3, should this work with Sync 4 as well?

You do not have Sync 4.

Go into your settings, general, about and post a pic of the top part. Post it here. Make sure not to include the VIN part of the screen.

You will need to replace the Hub, 2016’s have hubs that are not Apple certified.

It will not be wireless, you will have to connect a cable for it to work.

Once you post a pic of your current version I can help you from there.

You will definitely need to order a Hub though.

I have a 2016 Expedition, the sync 3 is currently version 1. How do I update it ? Dealer wants $135.00 which I have no problem with but if it can do it myself I would prefer.

Also is there a way to add APPLE PLAY?

Did Some more home work and I am replacing the USB ports with Apple compatible Hc3z-19a387-b But still need advise on updating software for SYNC3 from version 1 to current.

Yes, you will need the updated Hub if you have a 2016.

Head over to CyanLabs.net and download their updater program and follow the instructions.

Just went over to there site, I Read the manual method and It showed this::

If you car looks like the left side of this picture you are able to upgrade to Sync 3.4. If you car looks like the right side of this picture then you will require replacement hardware in order to have Sync 3.X

My car doesn't have the Nav on it. It looks like left screen but no Nav, I ASSume that it may not work. But I will give it a go when I track down a Windows Computer.
