I don't know what the hell is going on anymore. . . .

I have a ton of parts that i have been installing on my 09 Expedition and so far the fitment is crap.

The absolutely moronic lower radiator hoes with the ONLY not so quick disconnect fitting. The new Motorcraft hose of course will absolutely not push onto the existing radiator, same results with a Gates hose. . . Removing the O-ring make zero difference. The inside diameter is just too small. . . .

I stuck the new hose on the old crap connector with a new o-ring and got it assembled. I don't like it at all, but that's all I could do to get it together.

I get everything back together, low and behold, the mfing clutch fan will not thread onto my new Motorcraft waterpump!!!! WTF! The threads on the new pump are entirely too large. . . . The fan clutch was replaced about a year ago with a motorcraft one, so I don't know what the hell is going on anymore. . . The dealer, O-rielly, and Rockauto say the water pump I purchased is what is supposed to be on there. It looks slightly different from the one that came off. . . .

If it looked different it’s likely not the correct pump. Maybe they gave you a 4.6 pump or something. Worst case drop by your Ford dealer and see if they can figure it out. Motorcraft has had some problems in the past with getting threads right I’ve found. On the hydraulic brake hose I replaced a few months ago the threads were so atrocious I had to re-tap them myself...

Looking into it more, some say there is a water pump with a 30mm hub, and a 36mm hub. I need the 30mm hub, and got a 36mm hub. All of the pumps on any site I have seen so far does not specify, except for the only Motorcraft one that exists which is a 36mm hub.

I will call the ford dealer tomorrow and get a part number for this elusive Motorcraft 30mm hub water pump for the 3v 5.4. . . .

It seems like they stuck the aluminum 4.6 water pump on this thing, because the one that came off looks similar. No part numbers on the old one though. . .

If the threads are way off you got the wrong pump.

You are exactly correct. I went down to the dealer and talked with a parts guy.

the 2009 shares parts with the 2010 model, the parts Rockauto sold me are for a 2008. they changed some things in late 2008 like the water pump.

My 2010 has electric fan, mounted on the radiator. There is no clutch fan. Maybe that's the issue...

Gotta love those "changeover" years. :favorites68:

Rock Auto is a highly unreliable source of information for parts. Moreover, when they send you the wrong part they will point the finger at the warehouse/dealer that drop-shipped the part to you with the explanation that they claimed it was the right part number. Now I always check the part number with the dealer before ordering from Rock Auto (just as I have always done when ordering from eBay, Amazon, etc.).

Don't intend to be a smart ass, but mechanics rule #1, 2 or 3, is to always compare the replacement part to the old...
