My 2010 has electric fan, mounted on the radiator. There is no clutch fan. Maybe that's the issue...

ya, but yoyr pump still should have threads for a mechanical clutch fan. i thought about doing an electric conversion when this happened.

Rock Auto is a highly unreliable source of information for parts. Moreover, when they send you the wrong part they will point the finger at the warehouse/dealer that drop-shipped the part to you with the explanation that they claimed it was the right part number. Now I always check the part number with the dealer before ordering from Rock Auto (just as I have always done when ordering from eBay, Amazon, etc.).

thats a good idea. this isnt the first time Rockauto has done this to me.

Don't intend to be a smart ass, but mechanics rule #1, 2 or 3, is to always compare the replacement part to the old...

ya, the pumps are almost identical but the new one i got was cast iron, that should have been the giveaway. i figured it might have been an updated part though.

live and learn again i guess. . . lol

I feel your pain. I have a '14 and have run into problems finding aftermarket suspension parts. Specifically shocks. My year appears to be an anomaly concerning the shocks. The years before and after are different.

So I’m thinking about an F-150 between 2010 -2014. I’ve now eliminated 2010 and 2014.

Really gotta do research on model years I guess.

Some people on these forums swear by using OE parts only.

I did the whole aftermarket part thing and I have had way more trouble than it is worth. My father in law is a mobile mechanic and stopped using Autozone and only gets name brand parts because he was burred in warranty work form cheap parts that failed.

I had a ton of cooling issues on a 92 Cherokee, new cooling system, all aftermarket. Swapped in a Mopar thermostat and radiator cap, and water pump fixed all of my issues. Same jeep had idle surging issues with 2 aftermarket IAC, Mopar one fixed the issue. I tried to install 4 different clutches in my XJ before I got the LUK (factory) that was marginally more expensive. 2 Excedy, a Duralast, and a O'Reilly brand, none of them fit correctly.

Brother-in-law had a new aftermarket crank sensor on his 99 Grand Cherokee 4.0, it worked except for when it was cold out, then it didn't. Warrantied out the part and it made no change. Replaced with Mopar sensor and it worked no matter what temp.
He now has a 99 F150, he was fighting a really cold idle surging to the point it would stall. Warrantied the sensor 3 times, the parts guy was more than annoyed. Motorcraft sensor fixed the issue.

None of these out of spec aftermarket pars triggered a CEL or threw a code. It was only after I replaced them with factory parts did it fix the issue.

A lesson I learned the hard way when I was learning the business. My boss could not get a 6 cyl mustang tuned up. it had a slight miss he could not track down. he was getting very frustrated. he walked away and gave it to me. being new, i started from the beginning. I got to the point where I am holding the new distributor cap up to the light - i was actually checking for a crack - and could not figure out why it looked odd. I finally realized it only had 5 plug contacts in it. Brand new, delivered to us that way.
on another occasion, an ignition coil had both of the contacts missing. it had only the center tower for the lead to the distributor, but the two screw type connectors on either side of it were never installed. that one never got installed - it was kind of obvious when it came out of the box.

fun times.

Distributors are funny. I got a distributor cap for my 92 Cherokee. It looked really odd as I inspected it before installing it. I finally realized the lugs were all there but they never got machined. If I would have installed it the rotor would have crashed into the completely round lugs.

It happens.
