The only thing I've found online was the following post claiming that you can remove the headrest by pressing on the buttons after inserting a pin-line object into the holes on the buttons:

Alas, after trying for over 30 minutes I failed to get the headrests loose no matter what I tried. In fact I couldn't even feel like I'm pressing against any kind of a spring system when I inserted paperclips into those holes. And the so called "buttons" aren't really button - there is almost no give to them. So, I'm wondering how do you remove them. Does anyone know?

Some posts online suggested that you can't remove them, but I can't believe that's the case because you cannot install a car-seat on the 3rd row otherwise since the headrest surface is not even with the back of the seat and catches the top of the car-seat causing 1) improper car-seat installation, and 2) imprints on the headrest itself from the pressure applied by the car-seat.
