Phone audio started sounding like a cheap two inch speaker.

I recently posted this in a different forum. Apparently it was the wrong forum as I didn't receive any responses. Trying here.

I've got a 2016 Expedition Limited. I've had it about a year. Sync is at 3.4. This week, all of a sudden, made and received calls sound as if I'm listening to them on a cheap transister radio speaker held about six feet from my ear. Later testing showed that the sound is only coming from the small 1 1/2" Sony tweeter mounted high on each door. This is only in MY car. I transfer cars for a local Ford dealer so I sync my phone to them for use when I'm driving. They all operate as expected. This also occurs with my wife's phone in MY car.
I've looked at every setting I can find both on my phone (Samsung S8+) and in the car. I'm at a loss. The bluetooth audio (mostly Amazon Music and my Sirius account when needed) are not affected at all. Nor is Google coming from the phone. Only the phone call audio.
I took the car into the dealer where I work. Tech looked at it. He'd never heard of it either. He ordered a new Sync APIM.
Help!

When playing the music, did you move the fade and balance to make sure each individual speaker is working?

You know with any computerized electronic, if it does something screwy you shut it down and reset it. maybe get the tech to try that?

Yupster Dog,

Those were actually two of the first steps I went through, followed by a Sync Master Reset.

OK, so it's been a while. I have an update and a solution to the Phone audio issue I've been experiencing.
After replacing the APIM it still didn't work. So the tech spent a couple of hours with the tech line at Ford. Both of them came to the conclusion that the ACM (Audio Control Module) was the issue. It seems that when there is an incoming or outgoing phone call, all of the speakers in the care except for the two FRONT speakers are shut off. OK, fine, we ordered an ACM. Waited a week, and replaced it when it came in. No change!
Well, not NO Change but something. We discovered that my left front speaker was out (as in not working at all) and the right front would work sometimes (which was why the tech always thought he had fixed it until I came back in.
So, we ordered two new speakers, installed them, and Voila! Houston, we have liftoff! er.., uh.....Phone audio.
Front speakers was the issue. Go figure!
