First things about replacing CATs I found, there are two types out there CARB and Federal Standard. The CARB is required for California emissions. Some states like NY technically required to reinstall CARB if your car came with CARB. Inspection stations generally don't read the numbers to fail you though. I have always installed Federal because for the most part it's much cheaper. If your tag is correct and you're in Vegas, you should be OK to install cheaper Federal CATs.

I have replaced my entire exhaust on my Expy from Walker. You can go with a universal Federal or you can opt for a direct fit. I think I was quoted over $1200-$1400 to replace exhaust on my 2003. I looked up all the parts and ordered them off Amazon or Ebay (whichever was cheapest.) In the end, I only spent like $700 for all the parts I needed When I had everything I took to an auto shop to install. That was everything from the cats to the tail-pipe.

Hope this helps.

Thank you to everybody who responded. I have decided to go straight pipe back to the muffler, forgoing cats for now. Will register in state nearby that does not require emissions. To answer a few questions that have popped up in this thread: Isn't insured, yes its a bad neighborhood, trying to move, that's what the vehicle was bought for, and I can't afford the 1000 to replace them. Again thanks everybody.

A Walker system lasts 2 - 3 years, according to their own website.

You gets what yous pays for.

Keep reading. That's aftermarket exhaust that doesn't meet OEM specs. Walker does. My Walker exhaust has been installed for 5 years in WNY where winter salt eats just about everything. So far the exhaust is holding up. Now there certainly are better exhaust systems out there, but for a 17 year old vehicle this fits the bill.

Lots'o internet statements saying walker stuff isn't famous for their longevity...just sayin'. Maybe you got a good set, or just spend the time washing stuff in the winter to keep it from getting salt eaten.. ;)

I used to love Walker stuff. Made in Pennsylvania, always fit right, readily available with good catalog pictures. Then I noticed I was buying a lot of their stuff. Over and over again. So I called them. That's when they said it had a life of 2 - 3 years, and that it's "very inexpensive".

I guess some of their things are better than others. Roll the dice.

I can't speak for other's "internet statements," so I'll limit my reply to my own personal experience. I feel this has been a suitable low-cost replacement. The pipe isn't thin... chain-link fence quality pipe. The two CAT pipes I ordered came WITHOUT a box. Let me repeat that for impact. It came WITHOUT A FREAKING BOX! LOL! The label was literally printed and stuck right to the cat. So it went through the entire shipping chain UNBOXED and NOTHING was bent. Another pipe section punched through a box corner too. I wasn't pleased with those sellers, but despite little to no protection everything arrived undamaged.

The only obvious differences off the bat was the original exhaust had mandrel bends and the Walker exhaust was wrinkle/compression bends. It's been installed for years and doesn't show any signs of rust. The truck is a 17 old truck so washing it hasn't been a priority. It doesn't rattle or seem to impact performance. My camper is 7000 lbs. empty and it still tows the same.

So that's it. You can spend +$1500 for exhaust on a vehicle that might be worth between $2000 - $3000, or you can go the cheaper route and buy the $700 exhaust. Attached is parts pricing that I came up during my search for my 2003, in case anyone is interested.
