It wasn’t hard at all to swap out. Loosen sway bar on the side your working on, take off upper control arm joint, take off steering arm joint and remove the Abs and brake line holders. Then take off top 3 nuts and 2 lower nuts and push down on lower arm and remove strut. Go backwards and reinstall it all. Easy work. About 3 hrs with hand tools. The front will ride higher till springs set in.

With it sitting on the ground, how much compressibility do you have in the front springs? When I used KYBs on my Gen2, I only had about an inch of compressibility and they were bottoming out all the time. I think the springs were too soft. I went back to the stock Motorcraft units and the ride is back to new, with the correct ride height. How many spring coils do you count from the strut base to the top mount?

That's good to hear. I was looking at the same KYB strut assemblies. But I'm very confused now as the Ford Parts site claims we have shocks in the front and struts in the back. But, KYB offers complete struts assemblies for front and rear. Are you still happy with the front struts? Did you replace the rears as well after all?

Can anyone shed any light on the difference between shocks and struts? Is there an obvious reason why you would want one over the other? And, is there an issue running struts in a truck when OE calls for shocks?

Thanks for the assistance!

Don't forget the alignment even if the steering feels okay. Hopefully you have qualified shops nearby.
