should I trust a ford dealer to install my engine

We own a 2014 ford Expedition, EL 4D 4X4 Limited that has 86263miles.
It is currently at a Ford Dealer.
According to the Ford Dealer it needs a Long Block with an estimated repair charge of 8690.95

We have always had the car serviced at a Ford dealer.

I am trying to decide if I can trust the Ford dealer or should I find an independent mechanic or shop.

Take it to an independent mechanic. There have been numerous threads here wherein the dealer told someone they needed a new engine and after a trip to an independent shop, the repair ended up being far less serious and costing hundreds rather than thousands. I wouldn't take my truck to the dealer for an oil change let alone a potentially major engine problem.

This is the dealer’s diagnosis:

Diag system KOEO Pull code P0304 cyl 4 misfire. Perform power balance Confirm # 4 is low. Perform manual pressure test #4 0 psi. Scope cylinder looks like something got in the cylinder and beat the piston and wall up. Truck needs long block.

I took it to a dealer because the car has always been serviced at a Ford Dealer.

Yeah, we got that. That's generally the nature of systematic bad decisions. It becomes so routine that doing anything else isn't eve considered.

Whether the diagnosis is right or wrong, you will get more reliable diagnosis from a good independent shop and, moreover, the repair (if genuinely needed) will cost you less as well. If you have already decided to let the dealership go forward and were looking for reaffirmation for that decision here, you were barking up the wrong tree.

Do you know if the pulled the valve cover on the side. Cylinder four is back passenger side of the engine under the firewall. I cant imagine something got into the engine from the intake. I’m just curious to know if a vale dropped or something.

In plain words. Something doesn’t JUST get into an engine.

It would be simple enough to ask the dealer to show the damage with a borescope. The engine could have hydrolocked with coolant from a head gasket leak, or fuel from a bad injector.
