My son got a 3D printer for his birthday earlier this month, so I've been tinkering with it to figure out a way to dock my phone in the spot where the OEM coin holder is located.

I wanted to be able to just drop the phone in and have it link up to the USB port for Android Auto... the little USB-C that I've been using was starting to fail from frequent use.

My current version is only temporary, since it's printed in PLA which won't hold up to the interior temperatures of the Expedition in the summer.

The odd-shaped insert snaps in exactly where the coin-holder insert snaps in.

The insert attaches to the phone dock with sort of a dovetail.

It works great, I did have to buy a right-angle USB-C cable that fits snugly into the dock so that I can just drop my phone in and it plugs in perfectly. I have a spool of black PETG coming that I'm going to reprint it in with a couple tweaks, that should be MUCH more heat-tolerant.

This is AWESOME! PPL would buy these from you! I'm like 15 mins away from you, I'd buy one from you for an iPhone 8. LMK. :D

I got a printer as a gift in December, still haven’t opened it, mostly because I couldn’t think of an immediate creative use for it. This is a great idea!

This is awesome. I would buy something like this from you if you made something for iPhone XS Max.

I am waiting on a spool of PETG filament to come in so I can reprint mine to be more durable. If that works well then I could make them for any phone, I could probably make it adjustable now that I think about it.
