Just bought a 2013 Expedition. The horn chirps on the first press of the door look button on the remote, and the horn chirps on the first press of the door unlock button on the remote.

I would be OK if the horn chirped on the second press of the button on the remote. I asked the dealer how to get it back to what I would call normal: the horn chirps only after 2 presses of the remote button. Dealer said it would be a $300 visit to address that problem.

Is there an easy fix so I can avoid a trip to the dealer? Thanks.

Do you have the factory alarm system? Do you have the factory remote start? I would confirm this first.
If so, you can disable the honking altogether using Forscan if you're comfortable with that.

I believe it is a factory alarm.

I looked at several threads, but they each discussed using Forscan to eliminate the double honk when you walk away from an idling vehicle and you have the key fob in your possession. Some had a spreadsheet of dozens of codes, but I didn't see one that dealt with eliminating a horn chirp on the first press of the lock button on the remote/key.

I'm guessing it's not the factory alarm system. I've never come across anything where someone had an issue with the horn sounding on the first lock signal.

If you can't find anything to indicate the alarm system was changed, you could use Forscan to turn of the horn signal altogether when you lock it.

Did you read your vehicle owner's manual to determine if the feature can be changed via the settings menu on the display screen?
