After buying this 08 Expedition I could see signs of mice having been inside it. Not unusual here in farm country. I pulled both quarter panel interior trims today to clean behind and check wires for damage from mice. They had shredded a lot of the insulation and I’ve vacuumed out all of it. I was about to put the right trim panel back on and thought first I might as well pull the fan and clean it. This is what I found. The previous owner has 5 kids and this was blowing in their faces.
I know removing these panels isn’t any easy job, but seriously this stuff needs cleaning. The fan motor would have probably burned out.

Yeah, if you have a vehicle that lives on a farm, it's definitely a job worth doing ! What is all that debris? What a mess !

It is the foam backing the mice chewed off the rubber sound deadening pad that cover the wheel well and most of the quarter panel. The left side I completely removed the subwoofer and the pad to vacuum and wipe down. But the right side, I’m not disconnecting the hvac. I just poked around under and behind the pad best I could with shop vac. Once I had it vacuumed, I took cordless leaf blower and blew out the hvac and overhead ducts.

All clean now. Discovered it’s both mode actuators popping on the rear hvac. So holding off re installing the right trim panel.

The new blend door actuators came today. I just installed them. Ford Tech Brian’s video didn’t mention if the clock position had to be preset. He only said to remove fuse to clear the memory. I’ve had the negative terminal of the battery disconnected for days. Both new actuators were set a hair to far but fit on. Had me worried they would break the first time powered up. I turned on the rear hvac and moved the temp knob. At first they acted confused and just moved only a slight bit back and forth. I pulled the battery cable off again and removed the screws on one to see if it was binding. I had checked the doors first with actuators off and both moved free. Still seemed to move free with new motor on. Put only one screw in and powered them up again. I moved the temp knob from far cold to far hot slowly a few times and they seem to learn their position and after a few times the floor ceiling switching was perfect with a good seal on the mode door flap. Not sure if the temp door is right because the coolant is cold. The interior trim panel is going on next. I have to get the inside finished so I can do a garage reset and start on the transmission swap.
