10 years ago I replaced the fuel pump with Ford PFS453. It has a special "smaller" hose and fittings on one of the lines. The pump is bad again, and I have been told by ford I have to use the same number pump.
The PFS453 pumps are all in the $400 dollar range but the illustrations just show the standard line connectors on the top of the pump... The special fitting on the one line still uses the standard fuel line connector to connect to the smaller line between the top of the pump and the fuel line.. Does anyone know what the purpose of this smaller tube is, and has anyone just put in a standard replacement pump ?
Thanks

I haven't seen that kinda plumbing on the Expy. But the Motorcraft PFS453 that's offered today doesn't have that kind of plumbing offered. The PFS453 is the pump photos I posted above.

Thank you for the information. I suspected that was the case, but needed to hear from someone who had actually installed a current PFS453. The "Chat" person at FordParts.com wrote that the full part number for the PFS453 was 2L1Z-9H307-BG. That OEM number shows up in several replacement pumps including the Bosch 67223 pump that you installed.

Are you the original owner ? Really, it looks like someone broke the nipple off the top of the fuel pump assembly and came up with that rig. Like they screwed that brass fitting down into where the original plastic nipple came out, then came up with the rest of that skinny tube deal to connect to the factory hose coupling. That's some solid "engineering" right there. Looks like the factory hose and coupler is still there to just connect to a new fuel pump assembly when you install it. Get rid of that added "special" tubing there.

I am the original owner.. The parts guy at Al Packer Ford in West Palm Beach said that the pump with the small hose is shown in the "back order" column but found a store that may have one in stock... My problem is that I don't want to pay $450 for a replacement pump when it appears that an aftermarket pump for $150 is available and will work. The Expy has 430,000 miles on it and was my daily driver until a guy tuning his radio rear ended me at a stop light while doing 60 miles an hour... I keep it around for possible off road use now....
