Some clarity on the Motors:

ALL 4th Gen Expeditions have the same Motor.
The Platinum is merely a tune difference from the rest. When tuned aftermarket they all have the same potential, and a Limited will get no less power than a Platinum tuned.

The Navi has the HO or otherwise in some cases referred to as the Raptor Motor. There are several physical differences. Turbos, Pistons, and a few other things. The HO motors run a slightly lower compression to handle the additional power.

do we know if any parts of the engine assembly (other than the cover) that can physically visibly identify & distinguish the HO motor / components vs. the non-HO?

the sound thing & mileage got me thinking Brian might have an actual HO - which would be insane

I remember Deadman saying his wife's Navigator is so much louder than his Expedition. Maybe this was an experiment or a huge goof. I would say crawl under there and compare it to a Expedition and a Navigator .

Man...an actual unicorn??? Always heard stories of muscle cars back in the 60s "accidentally" getting the bigger engine or LSD rear.

There must be quite a few QC stations along the way, including the last one as it exits the factory. Don't they pop the hood at some point to make sure theres a motor in there?

Also, what about the dealer when they did the PDI? No issues there? Seems to me there are quite a few potential spots to call out the issue, but then again weirder things have happened. Remember the Jeep Wrangler issues getting mismatched fender colors....yeah me too.

Excellent question! Let me do some research and ask those who know the HO motor backwards and forwards.

I would be able to tell with a FORSCAN scan and vehicle detail report...but guessing @BrianF doesn’t have FORSCAN and an adapter.

IF this were a unicorn - which WOULD be crazy -

IMO whether it’s just the cover, or the entire HO setup - theres no way the factory folks did not approve it.

having said that, if it IS a full HO, the dealership inspection fail has no excuse. there are so many legal caveats to selling a vehicle with a power plant that much more powerful than the stock expy spec. i think corporate would want to know this & address it with you.

my concern would be if are there any other drive related components in the Navi that are upgraded in comparison to the expy, & whether some of the expy parts could handle the power without long term issues.

if there are, i’ll bet you would have a good case to force Ford to replace those parts with the navi equivalent - at least for longevity & peace of mind.

and - what if you were a customer who didn’t want the extra power / noise / reduction in mpg?

the list goes on how it could be a headache for ford -
