dl- Does the sport mode tighten the steering?? edit - or should i say, is it supposed to??

My expy never had "loose" steering, though eco mode made it more vague than I'd like. BUt sport mode does firm it up, makes it heavy but progressive, and it tracks better. Honestly, I wish sport mode steering was the regular steering, I didn't like the tranny set up in sport so I couldn't use it as much as I'd like.

i could never get any really noticeable difference to the feel of the steering in sport mode - but maybe that’s because i was so distracted by the dumb shifting points. totally wish there was a way to put it in “sport” steering / standard shifting —-

hey wait - maybe there is a way?

anyone know if there is a way to forscan to engage sport mode’s stiffer steering or anything along those lines?

You'd feel it more on curvy roads. I was always confident in the expys handling skills, but in sport mode, the steering felt better than the Mazda we also owned, which is saying something.

I test drove for a very short ride in sport mode yesterday. Didn’t really feel different @45mph on side roads. I asked my wife to put in sport mode on her way to work this morning and she reported that it was better. I’m not sure if it’s reality or a placebo, but in the end if she perceives it it’s true.

DL you got me messin around with the drive modes.

when i switch to sport, 4a automatically engages - (i’m guessing this is normal?.). and yes the steering definitely tightens up noticeably, especially on these Pa backroads.

when i switch to 2wd but stay in sport, i’m not so sure the steering stays as tight?

interestingly enough, when in normal mode, activating 4a tightens the steering up in the same manner as when i switch into sport mode & 4a comes on. (this i have noticed before & found myself driving all the backroads in normal+4a due to the tightened steering.)

i can’t help but wonder if it’s the physical activation of 4a that creates the tightening? or if it’s simply a power steering change that parallels the activation of 4a.

would be curious to see if someone who has a 2wd , if the sport mode tightens their steering also??? which would probably mean that it’s a separate power steering tweak within sport (& or 4a mode). i feel like if it is a stand-alone power steering tweak, then it “might” be an editable value for forscan?

any of our forscan junkies know if there is an adjustable value for power steering assist?

Reading most posts....glad I own the lowly XLT....don't have these other modes to play with and get confused. LOL By the way, love the way my '16 handles with the electric power steering. Fun truck to drive.

I have 2018 Platinum. I am surprised by how tight the steering is on this large car. I would pursue this with the dealer something does not seem correct. Thanks to the member above, I did not realize they had adaptive steering.

My truck was a 2wd and sport mode def tightened up the steering. On 4wd models, with it going into 4a and sport, the added grip and weight probably helps with the handling and feel.
