I'm going to make the wild assumption that the dealership can be trusted to install an engine. Hell, if I can do it, they should be able to.
HOWEVER...
I'd take it elsewhere for a second opinion on the need for an engine, preferably someone who isn't going to make thousands selling you an engine.

We own a 2014 ford Expedition, EL 4D 4X4 Limited that has 86263miles.
It is currently at a Ford Dealer.
According to the Ford Dealer it needs a Long Block with an estimated repair charge of 8690.95

We have always had the car serviced at a Ford dealer.

I am trying to decide if I can trust the Ford dealer or should I find an independent mechanic or shop.

Actually, I agree with you about trusting a Ford dealer to replace your engine - provided you need a new engine. Getting a second opinion is paramount though.

I've had good luck with my local Ford dealer doing warranty work, and I didn't even buy the vehicle from them. I think you have to get a 'feeling' for the dealer as to whether you trust them or not. Just my opinion.

of course a dealer can be trusted to replace the engine - but its more of an issue of do you need one replaced and how well is their staff when it comes to reviews?

i would agree with going for a second opinion. second opinion would give you some idea of what you are really facing OP.

0 psi cylinder and scored/beat up cylinder walls, it sounds like it dropped a valve, which requires a new engine. Buy a boroscope and have a look for yourself, it's a small price for peace of mind. They even have ones that plug into your phone

David have you looked online at the dealers reviews in Portland? Guys here are giving good advice to get second opinion with someone you do trust and has good reviews. Harbor freight sells bore scope cheap, could pay for itself with one use. Maybe a friend could give you a hand if your not up to the task.

Dealer for warranty work only or you will most likely pay 25% more than a local shop.

no, it does not require a new engine. that damage is repairable/rebuildable. question is, what does that cost compared to a replacement engine? Prices for both vary wildly across the country, so it depends on where you are.

I've been messing around in this business since I was a teen. whether to replace or repair an engine almost always comes down to cost. There are other factors as well, but almost everything is repairable, including, for example, something as "catastrophic" as a broken block.

FWIW, I do not recommend repairing a broken block, I'm just saying some repair is not necessarily impossible. It's just not cheap. Or wise, for that matter.

Absolutely trust that dealer, and go ahead and give them a decent tip. You should support your local businesses regardless of the cost!
