How much weight are you towing with a “non” HD Expedition?

The dealer printed out the spec sheets for me along with the brochure since I was shopping between the HD and non HD package. HD can tow up to 9300 but we settled for the non HD.I have a Crownline 192 BR that weights around 3000 lbs, the trailer is another 1000 lbs.

The 2019 manual shows a maximum of 6000 to 6300 lbs for the non-HD tow on page 291.

I have the HD tow and I’ll probably never trailer anything but might use the hitch for a bike rack or something along those lines.

But, If I ever have to I know I’m fully prepared!

I have a 2019 expedition without the heavy duty tow package. I’m still having a hard time believing that it can only tow 6000 pounds. My grand Cherokee that I recently got rid of towed 6600 pounds which is obviously a lot smaller vehicle with less power. I’ve seen a YouTube video of a guy towing a 24 foot enclosed trailer with race car inside for extended distance no problems. I guess I am trying to get a feel for what others are towing that do not on the heavy duty tow package?
What I’ve heard explained by a mechanic on a podcast is that with the small size of the engine, it builds up high heat and without the hd radiator and oil cooler and trans cooler there is a chance of something getting too hot. It may be fine 90% of time but that one time going up hill in a strong wind may be enough to kill something on drivetrain. The gear ratio also aids in helping to prevent overheating. Not sure what other differences there are but that’s what I’ve heard

There is a difference between what it CAN do and what it is DESIGNED to do. Sure your Expedition has the power to tow 6000lbs, and you can probably get away with if you only do it once or twice, but if you do it regularly, your drivetrain will quickly wear out and break faster because you are overstressing the components that is NOT designed to tow that much weight, like the Engine, Transmission, and Rear Ends. Keep in mind, that your Expy already weighs close to 6,000lbs by itself, add to that a 6,000lb or a 9,000lb trailer, that a lot of weigh you are trying to pull. You could probably tow 6,000 lbs with a Volkswagon, if you tried, but it would start falling apart almost immediately because it's not designed to tow anywhere near that.
